If anyone should find themselves in the Torrevieja area over Easter, our club is holding an exhibition and a modest regatta.

Their are around 100 boats in the exhibition and it's open 4 pm to 8 pm daily except Sunday from the 13th to the 27 of April. It's in the rooms at the top of the Park of Nations.

The regatta is at 10.30 on Saturday the 20th at 10.30 am.

          Hello Charles

Do you live near Torrevieja? I live in Mallorca and we don't really have many exhibitions here although there is a thriving International One Metre class association with regular regatta.

I don't think I am going to be able to make it but I hope it goes well and everyone has a great time.

Hi Tim, thanks for the good wishes, the exhibition is going well. Yes it's my local club, I live a few kilometers away so getting to the lake is easy. I haven't much hope for the regatta, the forecast is awful, not typical at all. It's not always sunny on the Med is it? ……. Just mostly.

              Hi Chas

Not much sailing of any kind going on here in Mallorca. It is blowing its socks off and has been for three days, now into the fourth.

Have been trying to organize a sea trial on a Oyster 58 for the last month but it has been too windy or rough. People who only see the Med in July or August would be surprised – like I was when I first saw houses here with fire places!

Just seen the national news and see that you are knee deep in Torrevieja and the worst hit with high winds. Hope you are OK.

We have got winds hitting 90 km/hr so it will be wild in Alcudia and Pollensa. I am in Puerto Andratx so a bit sheltered with the winds from the East.

Hi Tim, I'm glad you're ok, weather like this always seems to surprise a lot of people who don't live out here. It's a rare thing but can be quite extreme. We are ok, like you our home is in a sheltered area not on low ground and we have decent drainage. Unfortunatly a lot of people aren't as lucky and there will be some awful stories in the next week.

Our regatta was cancelled as you would expect but we'll make up for it later. Out here we only have to wait a few days for the warmth to return.

An Oyster 58, wow, I'm a bit jealous of that.

                  Chas

                      Hi Chas

Not mine I hasten to add. I have been supervising a refit on the Oyster as my job is yacht surveyor. We started in November and will finish at the end of May. Glad you will be OK. We are in the port but probably about 6m above sea level and second row.

Ray is rubbing it in but we will get our own back later in the year. In fact quite soon. I am likely to be in Torrevieja towards the end of May as I have a customer there. Do you have regular regattas?

Hi again Tim, we only hold 2 regattas a year, the next is in September, an evening sailing with all lights on the models. Also plenty of beer, wine and tapas, a lovely relaxing regatta.

We have our normal sailing sessions on the second Sunday of each month so that will be May 12, then June 9th, let me know if you can visit, you will be very welcome.

This being a Spanish club, they are a smashing bunch of people, organisation is very Spanish too… I'm sure you are familiar with that.

                        Chas.

                          When exactly in September?

Just curious because I'm in Torrevieja for the first half of the month.

The night sailing and picnic has been pushed back to October, I should get the date on Sunday, but that's not much help to you I'm afraid.

We will be having our monthly sailing on Sunday morning ( 8 Sept) at the top of the lake in the Park of Nations from about 10.30 until 12 ish. You welcome to come along and say hello.

It was nice to meet up with you today.Shame I can't make it to the rescheduled regatta, I'll be slumming it in LA that weekend but best of luck with it anyway.

Some very nice boats on show there and what a stunning venue for a 'floatabout' that park is.

Could you do me a favour and let the Irish chap I was talking to know that the plastic sheet cutter I was referring to is the Silhouette Portrait, probably about €130 from Amazon. Well worth it too.

Thanks again for a very pleasant sunday morning.
