      Hello Paul

Just been watching the controversial Coast programme again, now that it is on I-Player and I now think it is quite good, after all!……………And wish to retract my caustic comments!……Sorry BBC

I will post a link shortly for quick access

We went to Etherow park last night, to walk the dog and met up with a friendly couple with a giant Harley. They had just come back from a grand tour of Western Ireland and County Kerry was mentioned.

Kerry hey?………Quick as a flash, I said…."Did you visit, Telegraph Field, by any chance?"

"Oh yes, he said, it was very interesting……Did you know that the famous transatlantic cable to America, started it's journey from here?"

After a few minutes of further talk, it was Bob's turn to shine!

Did you watch the Coast prog on BBC2 last Sunday, by any chance?…….Yes, came the reply, it was very interesting!

      Now!…..Gerrin there Bob!

Here comes Bob's most smuggest moment of his life!

"The chap with the model boat, was me!"…………Lower lip a quivering of course

Needless to say, he was utterly gobsmacked! We had a really nice about it all afterwards

Starting a new model needs careful thought!

Just had a message from a chap who spotted Gutta Percha being mentioned on the Coast film and he says that Chewing gum is made from Gutta Percha!

              Hello Admiral Bob

I hope that you are having lots of careful thought…..how about something modern and BIG

I wouldn't like to stick the contents of the Atlantic cable on my bed post over night.

                Hello Bob

How about this for a proper model?

                But can you name it?

This is 13ft long and currently the largest in the UK, building a bigger one would challenge your skills.

                  Hello Paul

It's the Waverley at Llandudno West Shore

The chap also has a similar sized oil tanker and aircraft carrier

The Waverley is spoilt by a constant pipe band blaring away!

                    Macbraynes Columba

Its got a super long canoe like hull

Paul. Now I like that, a bit different. No idea what it is.

Far be it for me to say (as I am no expert) but a lot of passenger paddlers look a bit…samey?

It would be fun to make a ship and paint it in just black and white, or sepia, like an old photo. They released a "Supercar" big die cast model a while ago (think Thunderbirds and Fireball XL5) and that was in Black and White only, as of course the series was in B&W on the B&W tellies. A great touch I thought.

                          Bob where were you?

Have you figured out what the ship is in my last posting?

                            Is it the original Waverly?

                              Hello Bob

Its the Columba and she was MacBrayne's flagship from 1879 to 1935.

There is quite a bit of information about her on the interweb, not my cup of tea but I'll bet my pension that you could do it justice.

I'm afraid I'm a bit of a stranger on both here and the other model boat site I frequent Bob, pressures of work and all that mate. I have been keeping a weather eye open on them both though especially this thread and no I didn't miss the coast programme and must agree with what seems to be the consensus of opinion that the beeb seemed to clip the great eastern article nearly to death. Had I watched it with none of the prior knowledge I gleaned from this thread it would've made little sense to me, so much of the really fascinating information being conspicuous by its absence.

I've seen the comment on my Hannah thread and am trying to find the time and inspiration to get round the sticy problem of inserting her in the bottle as the suggested method of rigging and inserting her simply do not work

I was finally persuaded to take Great Eastern to this weeks clubnight at Etherow!

On condition that Duckie did all the talking and I stood in the wings answering some of the questions

The talk went very well and the committee were highly delighted with the publicity the club recieved through the Modelboats Magazines and the TV programme

We were quite amazed at the number of club members that hadn`t even seen the model before!

You can imagine the surprise they got as we juggled the model through the doors and into the clubhouse!

                                      club night-750_edited-1.jpg

                                      Now listen to this fellas……

After slagging off the BBC for not showing enough of the model, sailing about on the film, a trustworthy member stood up and said catagorically, that he had seen an hour long film describing the making of the days filming at Hoylake!

He was quite adamant about it, so I will look into this and find out more! What is more strange, is that when the date was announced for the official screening (May 20th)…..The same chap said he had already seen it!……eh?

                                      Duckie and Bob

There seems to be an unscalable obstacle, when a thread member/reader fancies posting a comment!

From all the model boat clubs involved with the Great Eastern experience, not one member has posted a single comment!……..Which is very discouraging to say the least!

Speaking for the Etherow club, only Duckie has posted on the thread, and we have 150 members!

I think that a lot of readers are nervous of revealing their personally details, required on the application form?

                                                    Bob,

I think that most model boaters are not very much 'into' computers. Most of the 'application form' details are optional, the main purpose is to ensure that it is a real person and not some 'spammer'.

As Paul correctly states, every internet forum has far, far more readers than participants. It's just the way things are so don't worry about it!

We had this discussion a couple of years ago when a 'watcher' stated that a few of us were dominating the forum at the exclusion of others, it upset me at the time and I stopped posting and yet here we are and I found that the same few members are keeping the forum going.

Don't worry about it Bob (as they say 'life is to short' )so let the watchers watch and if they don't like it they can go elsewhere.
