Bob, like it, like it a lot.

Are you going to try the underwater guide to give the impression of cable weight at some stage??

I still think a quick wave of the spray paint over a loosely coiled cable would give it some “discolouration” and thus show movement of the cable off the stern.

Didnt i see a picture back there of cannons on deck somewhere?? going to be a devil of a job getting them to go bang and emit smoke….

Hello Mark

Thank you for the complement, but there is nothing to it really!………Honest!

It`s already been suggested to take lower waterline shots, for a more dramatic effect and experiment with “olde worlde” effects.

We will do this on the next voyage of discovery……..I`m looking forward to it!

Photography is one of my other hobbies

Now THAT`s a good shot. Its very tricky but having a shot of the boat in the water VERY SLIGHTLY out of focus and in b/w can look very period. Modern cameras take such a sharp picture that never looks quite right for very old boats/whatever.

On the last picture, as its so close a shot, depth of field comes into play and so some of it is just out of focus and that, in my opinion, makes a better period shot.

I like the fading effect around the edges as well, very nice.

I bet the telly boys could atmosphericise your boat on the move..?

It`s about time you chipped in, Len!

The programme I use is Adobe Photo shop, level 4.0 and is about four years old now

It`s very easy to use……..Level 8.0 is on sale now at about £40.00 and level 6.0 is about £20.00

I do similar things with Paintshop Pro. But there are a couple of Open Source (and free to download) packages which can be used too, such as Gimp and Paint.NET. You can find them on Google, but best to find the official download site through Wikipedia to get a clean copy.

Latest update, regarding the TV involvement…..

Thanks to this website, the TV people involved are fully up to date with our progress and have emailed to say that they are following the thread and are pleased with the progress.

Further personnel will be making contact, very soon now.

No confirmation regarding the boating lake to be used for the filming, at this moment in time

I don’t think enough people would have your level of expertise at digitlal manipulation (Oooh Matron!) but, yes we could have another photo competition if we can find a theme which would attract a good entry. The last one was a bit disappointing.

Ideas anyone?

Got nowt to report!……..Still waiting for the TV people to let me know which lake they have decided upon!

The last message recieved said that “Jennie and Anna” will be contacting me soon to sort things out

You may have noticed a recent Great Eastern thread, created this week by Declan Mulvany.

He mentions a friend in Eire who wanted to make contact. The friend made contact last night and he is Junior Brown owner of The Telegraph Field at Valentia.

His website is very interesting to peruse and it was from this point that Great Eastern started her great trek across the Atlantic with the cable in 1866! This site could also be of great interest to the TV people making the program next month?

I think it is now the correct time to reveal more information regarding the TV people.

The programme is being produced by the BBC for the series…..COAST!

I`ve always admired this very interesting series of documentaries and look forward to my involvement next month.
