        That`s a good idea, Ashley!

But there is more sense in what you`ve said, than you realise!

        Why is that, Bob?….You ask

Because, dear Ashley, GE is fitted with old fashioned technology, whereby, if the Rc signal is lost…….the boat won`t stop!

At least, the cable drum and brake will slow it down quite a bit!……..Hopefully

        Here are the culprits….

        Now you understand?…….Bob

Oh, how quaint!  At least those rheostats will stop the little thing getting too cold.

            Hello Mark

I bought these controllers with the 540 motors as a package, the main reason for purchase, was that the capacitors come already fitted, a job that causes me some considerable aggro!

I didn`t realise, that once the signal was lost, the boat would carry on where the rc left off!

It only happened once, but it took a few months before I sussed it!

Don`t think Duckie will make it, this weekend, but I`ve always got my brother on stand-by, just in case

Finished the prop and rudder guard….Just in time for the big sail-in this weekend!

Needs a coat of red lead of course…….Bob

Ha! Ha!…………No good for parrots, Bish……..They would soon drown!

No good for sharks either, Mark………They would be chopped tuna in no time!

These are the jokes, folks…….Any more takers?……..Come on Ash, your turn!

The cage is a little on the large size due to the Becker rudder, but it`s an authentic gesture!

Bob. The other chaps,,, so shallow; fancy taking cheap shots at your very victorian prop guard. Paint it black though, eh?

Mentioning Becker rudder and authentic in the same sentence (as applied to the GE)…hmmm

I do approve though, as models of this size need to be able to manouvre well to avoid damage. The rudder on me Titanic is way too big, but it would never turn with a “scale” rudder.

                            Now, something for the kids!

It took GE about three weeks sailing to reach America and fridges were not yet invented.
So they had to take a mini farm with them, for fresh eggs and milk etc. Don`t know where the actual farm stuff was kept, but this seems a suitable spot

                            Should raise a few eyebrows?

As zero hour approaches, I`m having a few second thoughts on what to do tomorrow!

For starters, the park will be completely packed out!
The lake bottom could easily be full of shopping trolleys and old bikes etc
To pay out 100 yards of wire could be courting disaster with the duck population, as they seem to spend most of their time…upside down dredging the pond bottom!

So tomorrow, we`ll just pay out 30 feet or so and return to the landing stage for a quick rewind.
Can`t do much more than that.
The intended official pond is quite shallow and crystal clear, so we`ll have to have another repeat dummy run there shortly.

                                    The great day has arrived!
Set off early in the campervan, to make sure of a good car parking spot.

Got the boat assembled and set up on the stand, enjoying the witty banter from the club members…

Threading up the cable…….a proud moment!….

Spotted a sub in trouble!……..Stuck on an obstruction!
                                    Very encouraging!

After a lot of dithering, we finally got on the wet stuff…

Straight away, it was obvious that the spring loaded drum was too tight……..but later realised that there was a mechanical interference somewhere. Anyway, the spring was removed and we tried again….

Off we go!……..Went a short distance and reversed back, with the helper, taking up the slack

                                    Straining at the leash!

                                    Coming back…

                                    Taking up the slack
All in all, it was a good test run. Going to sort out the drum obstruction now and have another run shortly

I got a bit worried half-way through though when I mistook the sub for the GE slipping beneath the waves – until I read the caption.

                                        Hi Bob
GE looks good on the water, doesn’t seem to be any other boats there to obstruct your tests or were you that early they hadn’t arrived yet!.
Sorry I wasn’t there to help but Glyn Wyche looks like he was doing an admiral job for you.
No doubt you have sorted out the teething problems already, as I know you will not rest until you have it all sorted.
Am I relegated to number two now?

                                          Hi Ducky

Glyn was only keeping your seat warm!

Need another test sail shortly, when you are available.
Should have watched the drum rotation operating without the side spring, to see if there was any tendency to overrun.

Don’t need the spring after all, when we need to check the signal, the side guides just need pressing together to make up the circuit

Forgot to mention that the visual aid to cable payout worked very well.
Although you couldn`t see the cable going out as predicted, the wheel went round quite nicely

                                                Hello Ashley

My photo prog doesn`t seem to have a sepia mode, so I`ve had to fiddle about a bit…

                                                  Finally got the cannon finished

I`m leaving the barrel, shiney brass, as it could have been used for fog warning or signalling?

The problem now is….Where does it go?
