Looking closely, I believe there may be 2 props in line, look at the shape of the white bits between the blades of the first one.

        Kip,

For my part I'm more inclined to think that those white bits are support struts between the walls of the propeller tunnel and the prop shaft … ?!

Hi thanks for all the replys i now understand that its the wrong motor for the job (going to have a chat with my nice local model supplier (maybe a few stern words to be exact) i don’t take any of it as a insult to me this is why i joined the forum cause i knew I’d be talking to people who have a clue and a understanding of these things as im still learning ( wished id done it before purchasing the motor and also glad i didnt go for the next motor up he was trying to sell me) so all ive now got to do is get a better coupling and a better motor more specific for the job and a lipo battery pack but unfortunately im gonna have to stick with the cooling as ive drilled holes in the boat for inlets and outlets 😢

Hi Jonathan, I'm relieved that you're taking all the advice in a good way. Re changing the motor, if you follow Dave's advice and consider an out runner. (I would) the cooling coils can't be used, as the outer body revolves. You can get or make water cooled mounts but I can't see why it would be needed. Subject to other peoples input, you could just make some blanking plugs or for now just connect the input directly to the output.

Re the coupling, I doubt your shop will have the one Dave mentioned, so give the company (shg) a ring, they are excellent.

This is the coupling I now prefer. The two hexagonal parts are hardened steel and the rubber is very hard – you can almost use the thing as its own shaft aligning tool! The latest catalogue on-line is the 2013 edition and the price has increased. Yes – it's expensive but the best usually is. SHG attend most of the shows so you could save the P&P of £3.50 which IMHO seems OTT for a 12p Jiffybag and a Large Letter stamp.

Other peoples input…re water inlet and outlet. Yes, simply joining the two together is the easiest way and involves no further purchases and will be 1000% waterproof!
