      Hi,

I am looking for a set of plans to scratch build an ESSO tanker, Lancaster or Salisbury or some kind of equivalent.

Any help would be much appreciated.

      Melvin.

Very unlikely you would find modelmaking plans of such a vessel. You don't give the date but I assume it is post WW2?

Your best bet would be to do some online research to find out who the builders were and then try and find out what has happened to their records. They might have ended up in a museum collection somewhere.

Yes the vessel was built in 1962 and scrapped in 1977. My father served on this vessel and so was interested in building a model of it.

I will have a look around online and see if there are any blueprints or builders plans available.

            Melvin.

Hi Melvin I may be able to help .There is a French model boat plans catalogue called MRB Le Modele Reduit de Bateaux . .Included in their listing are a number of tankers to the scale of 1:100 -1;200 from the immediate post war period through to the 1970s including ESSO tankers . How accurate the drawings are I can't say but it may be worth investigating .The plans references are 258 , 879 . There are many more including bulkers and general cargo vessels from that period. I trust this may be of assistance

Hi Melvin I was given one to finish ,built it and gave it back to his son .

I belive it was a kit from Mobile Murine in Lincolnshire ,I belive the company advertise in our magazine. It will only cost you a phone call . If they have the mould they will build you a hull with your details,if stolen the hull would have to be destroyed to get the info out

Good Luck with your search winkMichael

There is no record in Lloyds Register of an Esso Lancaster ever existing! So maybe it was a similar name? There was an Esso Salisbury completed in Hamburg in 1957, renamed Terrytwo in 1972 and scrapped in 1975.

Yes, a lot of help – got it! smiley

Esso Manchester was completed in the USA in 1944 as the Santiago. Renamed Esso Manchester in 1947, and scrapped in 1963. She was a standard design T2-SE-A1 vessel, so the plans do exist. You can find them at the Smithsonian Institue, USA. When I last dealt with them, the plans of a T2-SE-A1 tanker were as follows:

                      General Arrangement Plan – MA22-2 $7 1/16th inch to a foot.

                      Lines Plan – MA22 – $15 1/4 inch to a foot.

These are all you would need for a model.

And – here is a set of splendid photographs of the Esso Manchester: **LINK**

Just out of curiosity, I wonder if the above plan was of the correct ship, and if you are going to build a model of her?
