      The kit is a bit expensive for what you get. 1 x Mk 8 torpedo, 1 x No13 torpedo, 1 x radar mast, 1 x Bofors, 1 x life raft, 1 x 20mm oerlikon, 2 x lifebelts, 1 x anchor, plus some photoetch.

The Academy kit has 3 x 30mm and 3 x 50mm machine guns, May be easier to convert these .

A few more pictures of the present progress. For a change I have made up the guns from the conversion kit and altered a torpedo, so I have 2 about the same size. The mast should fold if I can get it right. Just thinking about having a try at making the twin guns for the tubs next.

Is that seat on the Bofors facing the right way? Looks back-to-front to me…

I have twiddled the elevation wheel on one of those. Its amazing how light the controls are and how quick the thing is to train and elevate. Ashley

I have fired one (with blanks) from the deck of a minesweeper at a pair of Meteors doing a dummy attack off Malta. Though I was only 16 at the time, I couldn't move it fast enough to track a subsonic jet….

They should have either been retired years before that or given power controls, but that would have cost of course. Ashley

Seats on Bofors now the correct way. Just started making props for the torpedoes as the ones in the conversion kit I found impossible to use. Must decide then whether to make 2 more torpedoes or use the depth charges that came with the kit.

A little more progress. Had a go at the twin machine guns, some lockers and 2 torpedoes. The hull has been partly sealed, the deck and the inside still to seal.

My, you can get a lot more detail on the boat at that scale!

Have you found the hull strong enough? I have never put a 1/16 ply skin on one of these boats, and am wondering how it turned out?

                            Dodgy

I didn't think I could easily form the 1/16 th to the bow area and hold it against the balsa frame, so I used 1/32nd ply. This is being coated with epoxy. It seems to be strong especially the bow.

I have just started the other torpedoes by trying to make some paper tubes for the main cylinder then will make balsa fronts and rears.

I am attempting some rails around the top of the gun tubs.

A little more progress since August. Need to start the Camo pattern next and fix some of the lockers etc to the deck.

Not as much progress as I had hoped by this time but starting to fit fittings and crew.

                                    Thanks Ashley,

I have used 2 Italeri kits, one for the crew (all those years painting Warhammer figures helped with them) and one for detailing. Fore and aft gun, radar and life raft. The torpedoes are one from the kit, one altered from the kit and 2 from scratch. Twin machine guns are from scratch, the ammunition belts made from ribbon. Making a few deck cleats next and adding torpedoes. Nearly there.
