I bought this recently and thought of trying my hand at making a boat as I am a rookie do I need to put strigers and partisions in this boat ?

also how would I apply the decking to the fibreglass hull what I thought was to glue a thin piece of 1/4 inch square wood around the inside of the hull and then attach the one piece decking to the 1/4 inch beading if so what glue would i need would araldite be ok or isnt it water proof?.

would a single groupner speed 600 be ok or would I need more than one as I only wanted a single prop which I already have and a speed controller which I already have . any help and advice would be greatly appreciated obviously I need to have easy access to the motor etc so would make a hatch hole in the decking .I am open to suggestions that are not complicated ! and thanks in advance for your kind help!.

      .Best wishes,

      Tom

          Hello Tom

It is advisable to fit strengtheners to the inside of the hull especially at the points of greatest stress, glueing some ribs across the width of the hull will add the necessary stiffness and provide somewhere to fix engine mounts and equipment trays.

I find Araldite rapid to be an excellent waterproof adhesive and it is my preferred glue for building the larger models.

As you will have found the top edge of the hull is very flexible so instead of using 1/4 section timbers to create a connection between the hull and deck I would make a frame from a single piece of 1/4 ply. The ply frame is stiffer than the 1/4 section and will therefore provide a more robust method of resisting the flex in the hull.

The motor sounds ok to me.

          I hope this helps

          Paul

                Mr T,

If you would find an example of 5mm frames inside a grp hull helpful have a look at my album "propshaft alignment and build pilot boat". I used rapid araldite to glue the frames into the hull.

If possible bring along a sketch of the finished look you are after, it may well influence how the strengthing could be carried out eg mixture of deck and frames.

Will also be helpful brining any hardware (propshaft / motor / coupling) you have already to determine a suitable layout.

                    Tom

Don't forget the tea, coffee, custard creams, hobnobs and some comfy chairs or cushions as you know the others will only complain and if the meeting is after 11am you should also include Gin, tonic and Pimms.

                    tea

And a red carpet just in case Colin turns up!

                    Paul

Paul. re Colin…I didnt mind tne red carpet last time (from the rolls to the jetty) but it was the sweeping of the ground that got me, and the ostrich feather fans, we were worn out.

Tom. We need a full roast actually, tea and cakes just dont hit the spot around Sunday lunchtime

The Trent is a model slipway kit and took quite a while to build.
