I've just bought the Dean's kit Julie M, and understand that Model Boats had a build/review article on the model. Can anyone tell me which issue it was in?

      Thanks in advance

          Ian,

I did the review, it appeared in the 2012 Winter Special issue. I enjoyed the build although it did benefit from a bit of tweaking here and there. I also got the GRP superstructure casing in place of the standard vac formed unit that is provided with the kit. It is one of the older Deans kits and contains a greater proportion of wood than the more recent ones which use plastic decks. The boat performs very well with a 30mm 3 bladed brass prop. I originally fitted a 25mm one which was adequate but which left nothing in reserve.

I don't think there are any official back issues on sale at the moment but you should be able to pick one up on the Net or maybe someone on here has a spare one. If not let me know and I will send you a scan of the article.

          Colin

Thank you for that quick reply. I understand that the model first appeared in the late 1980's, and didn't fancy a long trawl through thirty-odd years worth of magazines (I get easily sidetracked into reading old articles when doing that). I have the 2012 special, and using this write-up plus the detailed instructions I should manage.

Post some photos on here as you go along. It's an attractive little model although I think the 'bridge' is a different scale to the rest of the boat!
