Good news for the restoration of the Manchester Ship Canal Tug Tender, Daniel Adamson, the HLF have awarded 3.8m towards the restoration.

After the restoration it is planned for the vessel to be in service on the River Weaver, River Mersey and Manchester Ship Canal.

Hi Tony The Daniel Adamson when it first arrived at the Boat Museum was in full working order if not in need of an overhaul but all the furniture , fixtures and fittings where in place . I recall the first job undertaken back then was a complete clean up of the boilers . Sadly the money well ran dry and work stopped. Although attempts where made to seal off the bridge and deck housings , many of the brass fittings where taken and inevitably the old Director class tug went into a fast decline but that was then . Thankfully work can continue to completely restore this wonderful tug back to its former glory days.

            Dave,

Interesting to read that they plan to use the ship on the Manchester Ship Canal after restoration. I realise that I am thinking into the future, but it will be interesting to know if she will visit us at the Manchester end of the 'Big Ditch'.

When reading further on the canal cruises which we discussed earlier, the first passenger trips along the canal were carried out between March 1892 and May 1894 by the Scottish Paddle Steamer, Ivanhoe. As Ivanhoe was 'dry' ship (no alcohol), could this be part of the reason for this early venture being a failure? The paddler returned to the Clyde.
