The long awaited crane barge { ex-bulker] ZHEN HUA 23 has delivered four of eight container cranes for the new Seaforth container berth .It arrived yesterday in thick fog but the real work of removing the huge structures is yet to start.

Now then Dave ,Welcome back with such great pictures .

Something I would never be aware of as living down the East Coast all I ever see is outlines of boats up and down the North sea at about 3 miles or even more

One thing has me puzzled is why we seem to be bringing structures from abroad or have already run out of steel

          Thanks again winkMichael

Hi Michael you are very welcome and I am pleased you like the pictures . The ZH 23 has been floating around off the Canary Islands for some time waiting until the work on the new dock was sufficiently advanced to allow these huge container cranes to be rolled off the ship soon after arrival. In one of the pictures you can make out how they are fixed to the deck of the ship. I was hoping to get a shot during its approach were you could see just how wide these cranes are in relationship to the width of the ship. As for the cranes being manufactured in China, well it’s all down to price. Sadly since 1945 we as a nation seem to have declined faster than our competitors and perhaps we only have ourselves to blame and to many doses of market forces. Still these new dock installations will allow us to import more and consume more of what we haven’t produced. The new replacements for the ACL ships are due soon .
