Eleven days have passed since the last post

      That`s a bad sign

      We must not get complacent!

Keep up with the government advice etc…2M spacing etc etc

I have a Son who appears not to realise the situation

He won`t wear gloves or a mask when shopping and sees no danger

My personal opinion, is that the virus will not go away, there are too options to keep the virus alive

The only way of beating it , is to find a vaccine etc

Sorry for being so pessimistic, but the danger is still out there

I think for us wrinklies the lockdown will continue in some form until we get a vaccine so at least into Autumn/Winter time, a whole seasons' boating gone forever crying

To make it worse for me I bent down to pick up some dog poo yesterday morning and had the familiar elastic band snapping across my lower back (not the first by a very long way) so now in plenty pain and immobile for a while. To top it off my 4" x 2" timber joists arrived in the afternoon for repairs to my decking, so not going to happen now. face 14 And then I have a delivery of roofing stuff coming a week Friday to repair my workshop so that I can put it back to useable state

I'm carless now as it failed the MOT and will cost more than it's worth to repair, hmmm does that make three or more bad things?

Oh well, one good one kind of, I bought something that I've really wanted for a long time:

        steam launch .jpg

It brings together my love of steam and boating, only issue is it's in Weston-Super-Mare and I'm in lockdown and no car ho hum. smiley

Something to look forward to once I work out a way of getting it.

        Keep your peckers up peeps.

          Captain Bob

From looking at the data I think that the elderly and those with chronic health problems could be in isolation until September and after that going out will be very risky until a vaccine is found.

At the moment it seems that elderly men are most likely to succumb to the virus, but what if it mutates into a strain that attacks the young and healthy like the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918 – 1920 that killed 50 million people.

If not contained the Covid 19 could wipe out a quarter of the global population, that's roughly 5 Billion people

How is this for being pessimistic,

I know this is not good for the economy, and will cause major inconvenience and hardship to many, but isn't it what the young have been "demanding" of late – vast reduction in the use of fossil fuels? It is them that are inheriting the Earth for the next 70 years or so, not us! I have no doubt that the health of everyone will benefit in the end if only we (everyone) can keep the pollution down. This is not political in the slightest. The main danger is that when the young realise how it will alter their lives, they may change their minds and want to return to a good, comfortable (and polluting) lifestyle. Now is the time to push home the advantage. Once it is all over, no more flying, no more cruising, no more school runs, more use of public transport rather than cars, more recycling and more repairs rather than "discard!" Sadly, the present times appear to be the most wasteful in history. I have seen rubbish skips piled up to the top with old computers, printers, copiers, radio sets, CD players, hi fi systems. Most of them apparently built so that it is extremely difficult to even get inside them to try and repair them. All this is probably just nature "readjusting itself!"

Once the virus has gone, I hope the world's population in general will take the hint – because if they don't – it will probably come back again!

The powers that be are saying that this is not the time for finger pointing or laying blame about unpreparedness but this style of pandemic was predicted years ago and scientists were telling successive governments about the need to prepare and carry stocks of vital equipment.

We stand outside and applauded the critical workers who are doing such dangerous work but we should also be demanding to know where are the stocks of PPE and essential equipment that the critical workers need, as a country we had the time to organise ourselves as we should have acted when the epidemic was first announced in China.

Instead we did the usual British thing of sticking our heads in the sand and hoping that it would pass us by.

How many lives could have been saved if the powers that be had acted when they should have done instead of squabbling over brexit.

It takes a hundred year old man to rally the country when it should have been the hundreds of time wasting politicians who should have done what they were elected to do.

Bob is right when he says the young are going to inherit the mess that we have made and I hope that they do a better job at putting the right people into the right job and get past the ridiculous and petty schoolyard politics that we suffer from today.

Each generation has its own problems to deal with, but I got fed up of all this progress in late 1992 when I quit the rat race by throwing in my highly paid job at sea and never regretted it, The danger now is that when the up-and-coming generation realise what they will need to give up to sort it all out, they may not like it!

                          Bob,

Not all that frghtening – I felt pretty much like the rat back in 1992, when it finally dawed on me that I was getting nowhere, working harder and harder for less pay. The rat is searching for the cheese and jumps through a lot of hoops to get it, only to find itself in a trap at the end of it. Since 1992, I have seldom made the minium wage working for myself, but have been a lot happier with the less stressful lifestyle, and have never received any benefits or state help, and occasional had spells where I earned more than I did at sea, although these are few and far between, but are wonderful when they do happen. Ironically enough, since the lockdown, things have looked up as far as writing is concerned, and thanks to the digital age, I do not even need to go out!frown Here is a final thought that I read at the end of an ancient novel written over 100 years ago, called Pocket Island:

Life at best is but an enigma, and like children pursuing a "Will O' The Wisp,"so do we all pursue the illusive beacon light of a brighter and happier to-morrow – always hoping, never attaining, though striving ever until, wearied of the vain pursuit, at last we fall by the wayside and are forgotten.

                          Charles Clark Munn (1847 – 1917)

                          ——————————————

I have just come to accept things as they are, and fudge along the best I can, without worrying too much about anything!

                                          Hi All,

It's good catching up with all the news in these difficult times and seeing old faces again. None of us really know how long this situation will last but I think we are all in it for the long haul. I read some of your posts relating to cleaning stuff- trolley handles, shopping, steering wheels and so on. My daughter and son-in-law are in 'The front line' and there have been some interesting forensic articles coming out to them at work.

We all now know that Covid 19 is a Virus and as such is a protein with a fatty outer shell. This means that unlike a living organism like a bacteria, it cannot be destroyed with anti- bacterial washes, gels etc. The only way to kill a free virus on objects that get handled is to destroy the shell. Hot water and soap destroys fat, but it should be hot, so a damp cloth to wipe your shopping is not good enough unless kept hot, which melts the fat . Alcohol washes, like some of the hand gels contain 65% alcohol which also destroys the fat. So at home or in the workshop Isopropyl-Alcohol will destroy them too, instantly! . Another source of alcohol is drinks like Vodka which are only 38 to 40% alcohol, but are better than nothing at all.

So really its still HOT water and soap that are the best……so keep safe and keep modelling. and by the way 'This is not a scam or hearsay…..but known facts. Also our paint masks will NOT stop the Virus when you breath in but will stop you touching those areas, as well as sneezing or coughing on other people.

                                          Hope this helps………….cheers….RON.
