I do a stint as santa for the local primary school each year.
I was walking down to the school one year in full dress, curly hair and beard, the lot, even a sack and hand bell when a funeral cortage drove slowly past.
Not really knowing what to do,Ii stood still at the side of the road, and slightly bowed my head in respect to them all, but as I looked up, they had all got caught up in the traffic lights and had also all stopped
I then saw that some were laughing, some where smiling, and some were even waving from the cars……but none were crying at that moment…….I smiled and waved back, and thought as I walked on towards the school……perhaps there is magic in Santa Claus after all……..never forgot that moment.
It wasn’t me that brought a bit of cheer into their hearts at such a sad moment…..it was Santa’s.
Long may we all believe.
