        Hello Bob

30mm MDF is dense and perfectly flat so its ideal as a building board, I had been expecting to buy an off cut piece of kitchen worktop but the MDF was cheaper.

Might post a photo of the completed boat.

After taking advice from my good friend DM I have decided to fit brushless motors to Charlie.

LC3542-5T 1080KV Leopard Outrunner Brushless Motor.

Paul emerges out of the Stone Age and into the latest technology of today!

            This should be interesting!

Has the suggested motor got any provenance, Paul?

I`ve got all the info regarding the Ellie and SloMo motors, if you are interested

              Hello Bob

I know very little about the motor or ESC but I will be doing some research into brushless to bring myself into the 20th century.

If DM rates them ……..that's good enough for me.

I've actually slightly modified my "best guess"! I think that perhaps the 960kv 9T version might be more suitable because it will enable better slow-speed control (having more turns) while still being more than powerful enough – especially running on 3S and in tandem with another one. The 60A ESC suggested will be OK for this motor, too.

The quality of these Leopard motors is astonishing; they are almost works of art. It's also heartening to see a decent heat-sink and sensible-sized cable on a speed controller. Some of the other so-called high-current affairs leave me baffled e.g. no heat-sink and 16AWG cable for a 120A ESC. Neither the motor nor the ESC are cheap but they are coming from a very well-established UK suppliers (Component Shop), so there will be no problem with after-sales service or warranty issues.

(BTW My new model also has a brushless motor, but it's nothing like as big as this one.)

                  Showing my ignorance here

What is 3S? I presume it refers to batteries

3S was unflatteringly referred to as 'The Remedial Class' in my junior school. I avoided it by wearing glasses and pretending to be enigmatic (at eleven???).

Read this **LINK** The paragraph which starts with "Finally, Lithium Polymer (LiPo) batteries…." explains it.

I am fitting a "fusion 3529/10" motor to my next project..

outrunner, 10T and 14 poles, of 1300Kv, 35MM DIAMETER. No idea what sort of prop it will turn but its nice and compact, and being relativly of low(ish) Kv should be ok for a 40mm or so prop no probs, possibly, hopefully..

Not at 11 years old, m'duck. I do remember being very proud of being described as "iconoclastic" by my 5th Form English master. We had a mutual lack of respect for Nottingham High School and its antediluvian ways. I voiced mine and was regularly beaten for it, while he kept schtum (at least in the Staff Room, it seems) and was eventually promoted to Head of Department.

                          I learned a lot from Mr Brown…………..

It depends on what you want it to do and what voltage you intend to use. 40mm sounds like a minimum size to me.

Dave. You will not believe what I want it for. If 40mm would be a minimum that will be super. Ashley

Funny enough Trevors current oddity HAS thrown up pics of a couple of boats of very similar design.
