can anyone help me, i have got hold of a draper scroll saw 16" and have renovated and painted it , in working order, the problem i have is the motor fan cover is missing and i am worried the motor may overheat . the motor seems to be the same on all makes of scroll saws . the cover needed is square in shape with rounded corners and clips onto motor . i have seen same on 5 different makes but cannot just buy the plastic fan cover. PLEASE DOES ANYONE HAVE ONE I COULD BUY MAYBE YOU HAVE A SCRAP SAW UNDER THE BENCH ?? i am keen to finidh it off and start cutting my wood out msny thanks david

It's usually quite easy to get spare parts for Draper kit – is this the saw you have? I can't see the part you're after…

It looks to me as if the only thing that the missing part does is to protect your fingers from the fan and the fan from your fingers. If you can find a tin or plastic can or something along those lines with the right diameter to fit over the end of the motor house flanges, all you need to do is to cut out the bottom and replace it with a mesh grille of some kind, and you should be allright to go.

Or am I missing something here?

It is a centrifugal fan, so the casing is an integral part of the fan.

That said, the size is not all that critical. Any round or semi-square plastic tub which will fit over the end will do the job fine. Just fit the tub over the end, and cut a 1"-2" hole in the centre of the base. Put a grill over the hole for safety, and Bob's your father's brother…

Poundland – Pound Stretchers – etc do varied kitchen storage tubs, they even do them in that 'square with rounded corners' shape, that's where I would start looking if I didn't have anything in the house.
