I will be starting this kit shortly but i have not decided on what motor
to fit. If i had unlimited funds then i would probably opt for a 12v
Marx Hectoperm but at over £120 new it’s far too expensive. Also i would
prefer direct drive running on 12 volts. I have used 7 and 12 pole
motors in the past which seem to have plenty of torque but i have not
seen any advertised recently. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The kit is no longer produced and I can’t seem to find out much about it. Can you say how long and wide the model is and what diameter and number of blades the prop is/has?

Peggy is a steam drifter. Hull is 48 inches long and 9.5 inches wide so quite a substantial model.

Thank you 60watt for the info on Ebay. I’ve actually bought two of these
motors for a current tug project. They are great motors, massive torque,
slow rpm and they only consume 2amps when turning 70mm props. Although
one would easily fit in the peggy hull its massively over powered for a
                early 20th century steam drifter

I always say…..if you have the power in hand, you can get out of any trouble on the pond that others try to put you into. you don’t need to use that power but it’s always nice to have it in hand.

…and you can use a six volt battery
…and some speed controls allow you to turn down the maximum power, though some don’t.

You could use one of these on 12v with its 50% output (Mode 2) set. By all reports it’s excellent in “Danny Boy”.
