Hi Bob,
I have been working on the boat since Nov, dilligently doing the weekly work. I have the hull primed in mid grey,( from Halfords) and the brass parts, (fiddly sods,) are beginning to take shape. Try as I might, I can’t seem to get as perfect a result with the brass as I would like. The catapults look super tho’. They are like pieces of costume jewellery! Very nice. The signal stand was a beast to put together, but it came out all right. The extreme detail of the brass does seem, at first thought, rather superflous. After all, when the boat is 50 yards out on a pond, who is going to notice if a porthole is in the wrong place!
I suppose that when it is sitting on the shore in between operations, the gawpers and armchair experts could point out some minor flaw.
As for an up to date site, try http://www.bismarck.oehm.net. Markus Oehm is the builder. He’s in Wuppertal, Germany. I have been in contact and he is a very nice man, and his building is excellent. His text is in german, but the photos are close-up and instructive. Iv’e tried to get a translation on Google, but it comes out as garbled rubbish.
I hope this has been of help,
Gerry Walters
