I have 3 of these motors in a Schnell Boot Hull, but I don't know their rpm and whether they will be able to lift this 57inch long model onto plane. Can someone advise me please?

Buhler motors are best known for their high torque/low speed performance, so I doubt if they would suit such a large planing hull. That said, if they are already installed then why not give them a try? Do use lightweight batteries, though i.e. NiMH or LiPo, and go for the full 12 volts. Sealed Lead Acid batteries are fine in the right place – but this isn't it!
I think you really need to look towards fitting brushless motors in such a model eventually.

Thank you. I was thinking of just trying the layout without a deck, just with ballast to test the suitablity of these motors. But I also feel that 3 outrunner brushless will be ideal. Can you suggest where I can get information as to the size I would need?

Have a good look at the postings here **LINK**

If nothing jumps out and says "This is the same as my model" then join the forum and ask the question as above. I would offer some suggestions myself but models this size are out of my experience, as are the brushless motors to go with them. Someone out there will have done something very similar.

                Dave,

Thank you so much. I did not know this forum exists. I have not totally gone through it yet but from the first viewings there looks to be some good advice on the type of brushless that has worked for others.

                Thanks again, Vernon

                  Hi Vernon

What size props and number of blades are you going to use?

If around 37mm 3 blade a few brushless motors may suit are 3639-750(600watts) and3648-850(900watts).

As you are running 3 motors that's 1800 to 2700 watts!!!!

As for ESC's 60Amp 2 to 4S( I use Hobbyking car one's(HK-60A SL)(no plumbing and very good low speed).

You will require 3 of these and 2 Y connectors to link up to the throttle channel!!!

With the program card very easy to setup.

                  Lipo batteries Zippy Compact 3300.3S.60C(288 grams each) (139 x 45 x 24mm).

If you use a good balance Lipo charger with a safety bag and DO NOT charge them un attended you should not have a problem.

Charging speed 3300 mah divide by 1000 = 3.3Amps max.

Note Hobbyking weights are with packaging, my weights are not, so it's what is going in the boat.

Hope this helps to start with!!!

                  Harry

PS If you look on the Hobbyking site under some of the motors you can download a data sheet which covers a large number of motors.

                    Hi Harry,

Props are 45mm dia. 3 bladed bronze scale pitch with pointed ends. Thanks anyway. I will go on Hobbyking site as well as Dave's Link. I have tried Lipo and can't get on with them. In fact I gave them away. NiMH are the ones I use all the time. They are all 5000mAh capacity and I intend to use 6. 2 for each motor. Should be enough for a good run. ACTion Electronics are sorting me for the wiring.
