        Hello Captain Bob

You have built a very strong and rigid frame, ideal for straight running and perfect for a pair of high speed motors.

I am looking forward to seeing this on the water.

Thank you Paul, I`m very please the build meets with your approval

We`ll talk about the Motors, later on?

The 1 mm ply is looking too thin, but the 1.5 mm seems to be ideal, especially when the grain runs across the hull

All the best, my mate and keep your distance, out there

Just an idea but a double layer of 1mm will produce a very strong and lightweight skin.

Made a start on the hull skinning and….So far so good

Going cross grain has proved to be the perfect choice

                    Hello Ashley

I get the impression that you were a Scouter in your younger days?

I would just like to mention here, that my dear twin brother achieved the highest accolade of "Queens` Scout"

He worked very hard at the time and he deserves the mention

He also appeared in Ralph Reader`s "GANG SHOW " at the Manchester Ardwick Hippodrome about 1955

I can still remember the songs that he practiced for months and months on end, prior to the show. He played the guitar and I accompanied him on the Cornet, we were very good at it too

                    Happy days

Yes, it does resemble a tent……ish

All the best Ash…..Dib Dib Dib

I was a Sea Cadet, Bob. However Berengar progressed from Beaver to cub to scouts and we did a fair bit of helping out setting up camp etc.

Cant do that nowadays, have to have a full security check and inside leg measure to assist nowadays! (DBS)

You play the cornet ? Were you ever in a brass band then?

Boys Brigade for me played the side drum in the marching band, we mainly joined as the 15th Bromley as they had a fleet of kayaks and a Heron sailing dinghy Friday nights for drill practice…… then we discovered girls & beer

Hi Ashley, I used to work at a famous engineering Company, Craven Bros in Stockport and they tried to form a Brass Band, in about 1956

I put my name down for it, but they couldn`t get enough people interested

Incidently, we used to have a fitter at my Engineering company ……..No other than……Alan Wicherly

He was a famous master Cornet player of world class status

He played for Fairey`s and Leyland Daf Brass Bands

He`s just retired from being a Conductor

                          Do you know of him?

                          Look him up

Was pleased to see that all is well with the hull sheeting

Note the Power Belt Sander, a very handy machine but, can run amok at times!

                                Hi there Paul

When hull skinning is being carried out, I need every single one and then some!

I like the string and weight idea these days, and is nice to use

There are two stringers,on the inside of the hatch, they don`t seem to have an end notch in former 7?

Only hope you know what I`m on about?

                                Bob

                                  Hello Bob

Yes I do know what you are talking about,.

From memory F7 is intended as a solid bulkhead and that the stringers connect to a horizontal section fixed across the bow side of F7, but there is no reason why a couple of notches cant be created in F7 to accommodate the stringers.

Progress pictures showing the hull frame being sheeted over with 1.5 mm Birch Ply

There is a subtle twist shape towards the stern and checking for a smooth transition is quite tricky, but we are getting there now

Are you going to plank the stern fore & aft to achieve that concave shape ?? The bow is where I'd use block and carve a nice flare from the chine to the keel/stem 😄

Hi Ray, the sheet can handle the flare

But the bows will need planking vertically

It might help watchers (remember Kevin) if you could tell them what type of glue you are using and if you are using any mechanical fixings such as pins or screws.

                                                    Thank you, Paul

For Kevin`s benefit, I used Hardboard for the formers and multi hardboard strips for the stringers, mainly because I had no proper wood in stock. It has done the job well enough using a quality strong glue, Evostik Exterior Glue, that sets like concrete after 24 hours.

At the moment I`m lining up the structure on the bench and checking for squareness and twist etc and grinding down the lumps and bumps and high spots, before finishing the hull sheeting. The bench is a little small though
