Hi, I am presently building the Model Slipway kit of the Canadian ship Tsekoa II and am at the stage of fitting a Bow Thruster.

The instructions, unfortunately don't give any detail on the drawings or the hull of the position the holes need to be made to fit the Bow Thruster.

I'm not even sure of what size Bow Thruster I am going to need. Can anybody give me any advice.

      Phil.

Conventional wisdom is to fit the thruster as far forward and low down in the hull as the shape allows. At the time Tsekoa was designed there were few commercial bow-thrusters around, the main types being the Robbe and the Graupner ones (both run with Speed 400 motors). These days Raboesch make quite a few different sizes. I would suggest somewhere between 20 and 25mm internal diameter tubes – the bigger the better. CMB list all of them. **LINK**

BTW the kit was reviewed in Marine Modelling March 93 and Model Boats May 95.

Dave, thanks for the reply. I have purchased a Raboesch thruster, 22mm as I thought, within reason, the 'bigger the better'.

As yet I have not read the reviews, will I be able to get a copy from the publishers or is there another source.

I'd try the publishers first. Failing that, someone here may be able to send you a photocopy of the articles etc etc. You have the same access to info regarding back issues as I do. Maybe Larry Longbuild? See this thread **LINK**

BTW I see from Model Slipway's photo-gallery that their model didn't appear to have a bow-thruster.

Hi Dave, your right, Model Slipway do not show a Bow Thruster but after doing some research I found that the ship was fitted with one. Not sure when or how long it had been in service before the thruster was fitted.
