Hi All , Is everyone excited about Haydock i know i for one cant wait , I am really struggling to find single hole stanctions , the small ones on the side of the super strucher for the hand rail , would anyone know whos most likely to be selling them at the show.

Loading both cars tomorrow and setting off at 1pm ready for setting up at 2pm, I certainly am looking forward to the two days of banter and meeting up with old friends.

Have you thought of using split pins as stanchions?

Just got back from Haydock.

Having arrived late due to M6 traffic I was stunned to be told by at least six people that my team had been there since 2pm but had to leave.

Either the fairies are looking after me or some unsung hero decided to help me.

Whoever, or whatever, they are I am very sorry that their good deed didn't go according to plan.

btw we are in the same place as we were last year so everyone knows which part of the event to avoid lol

ps when you see Larry (long build) don't mention the beard as he is very self conscious about it.

Hi All Just got back home from a visit to Haydock .Met the daring Paul and Bob at the Fund raising Stand . Very well set up and well supported by the public at large . Thanks Paul for the time spent helping me with air changes on the Sea Fighter ,you made it very simple as I will show in the near future .Bobs creation was amazing with the additions since Ellesmere Port ,admired by many.

Elaine said thanks to Bob for the entertaining time you gave her ,she now knows her way around a Tablet as well as your creation ,much better than I could.

I enjoyed demonstrating the novel features of the IPad etc to Elaine and showing every Tom Dick and Harry the exciting features on Lady Joyce and SloMo

Since the stall had a charity theme, I had great fun asking for a 10p contribution before going through the motions

The visitors didn't mind and we all had a good laugh

One set of batteries lasted……7 hours!

The Model Boat Convention at Haydock was an absolutely fantastic event and so very well organised, in point of fact the whole 3 days ran with such military precision that you could set your watch by the coming and going of the demonstrations.

Arthur and Jean have obviously invested a huge amount of time and effort in planning and organisation to get the huge event off the ground.

A big thanks should also go the all of the support team who undertook the essential jobs such as setting up tables and sorting out the car-parking. A special mention goes to Larry's beard that drew everybody's admiring looks and seems to have a life of its own.

Now a report on our charitable exploits at Haydock

Over the weekend we raised at least £150 (the charity collection boxes haven't been counted as they are sent back sealed) all of which is going to our nominated charities.

I have to thank Bob and his lovely wife Joyce for their sterling support behind the stand and Michael Farrell and his delightful wife Elaine for helping to man the barricades on Saturday. Apart from helping promote the designs they also kept me company and allowed me to take some much needed breaks, the ladies also supplied a superb counterpoint from discussing boats by chatting with me about Emmerdale and Corrie, yes I'm a fan (much to Bobs disgust) and I was most impressed by Michaels in depth knowledge of Emmerdale.

Bob conducted his own amazing floor show by displaying his multi engine VGC and Slo Mo 2 then rattling the collecting tins and charging everyone 10p to look at the boat (the tins were quite full by Sunday evening)

I managed to shift a few model boats through the chandlery but unfortunately not the high value ones so it was a bit of an anti-climax.

All in all we had a great weekend and met lots of very friendly people.

Yes, we had a great time…..Those two long days were a nice change from our normal time passing activities at home and were very pleasant

I've written a lengthy report for Duckie to post on the Etherow blog and will post a link shortly

We get on well together with our double act and it was nice to see you in reasonable health this year

I enjoyed demonstrating the quadruple drive for the 10p charge and the subsequent chit chat that followed

Seen at the show

This is Amos……..He's a member of Bury Metro club and he is an absolute dedicated master model maker…..Where time and effort knows no bounds!

Having built his famous nearly all brass paddle boat, which is of the highest quality, he in his fourth year of building a 14 foot destroyer.

Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo of his work in progress, but will get one, somehow shortly

His model calls for over 1000 stanchion sets, complete with shackles, linkages and nuts etc

One set takes two days building time!…..So that's 2000 days in total……..About six years to complete them!

We've got a bed organised at Cheadle Royal, for when the time comes!

Like quite a few chaps I am a Corrie / Emmerdale fan (although not many would freely admit it) I have quite a wide range of interests from model boats and helicopters to Glen Miller and Bach. The soaps fit in quite nicely between StarTrek and Horizon.

It was very good to see you again but sadly we didn't have much time for a chat.

Dear All

Unfortunately I think this has been the last time that Bob and I will be displaying at Haydock.

Its three days since the event closed and I am still completely exhausted and whilst I cant speak for Bob I do know that he found it hard going.

I think it only fair to all concerned that I break the news now before plans are made for 2016.

I will still be supporting the show and attending on either Saturday or Sunday and hopefully meeting all of the friends that we have made over the past couple of years.

My charity work will continue via a website and the MB forum.
