Just got back from setting up at Haydock.

Arthur has done us proud and selected a superb spot for our stand.

There is a glass screen right next to our tables which are perfect for the display boards

Plenty of space my Lady Jane 5 and Brutus

I shall be there about 9.00 am

            Hi Bob

We have got a great spot and people were already stopping to read the display boards.

Sailing Brutus and SloMo is a good idea, I will bring the camera and get some action shots.

                      Hi chaps

Had a very interesting day today at the Haydock Show.

We saw quite a few of our website friends today. It was very surprising at times to see a stranger call at the stand and introduce himself as such and such…..and he would turn out to be one of our friends off the forum!

We met The Long Build, Cookie, The Invisible man, Paul Freshney with an important guest, sorry, couldn't catch his name, Dave Wooley, Mike Farrell, Kimmo and Garath and Lizabeth, lots of the Etherow crowd, sorry if I've missed someone out

The venue at Haydock is really exquisite, for the Model Boat Convention and really is worth a visit, for lots of reasons

Paul had worked really hard, preparing the brochures, cards, posters, model info cards and Plan CD's

We managed to attract a few plan sales today, thanks chaps…….Enjoy the builds and please keep us informed on your progress

We are both feeling very tired tonight and will be posting the pictures shortly

Many thanks to Paul for hosting a very interesting day

Our boats were very well received and customers were spoilt for choice!

                      More stuff tomorrow chaps

                              Thank you, Colin

We had a real fun day today…..We were inundated at times with friends and old pals dropping in

The Vintage Yacht stand with Gareth and Liz was interesting and had a good laugh, taking the Mickey out of Kimmo's old rope stuff! We both spoke in our own local accents and could hardly understand each other….I piled it on of course!

Saw a few chaps we met at New Brighton and Hoylake, during the Great Eastern era and they all had fond memories of the event

Got to admit, the day was very tiring……Paul did well, considering?

                              More of the same, tomorrow

Yes, I can appreciate that it must be pretty tiring for both of you being constantly available to field the queries. Don't overdo it and make sure you chill out properly once it is all over although I'm sure that Jane will ensure that Paul does just that!

Hi Bob and Paul , Now that was a sight to delight a old timer. Beautiful crafted models all with character. Great to meet both of you and now feel a friend

Glad to see the Mighty Thor at last and compare Pauls creation with my attempt to build the same . Having the time to discuss various ideas and wrinkling every bit of information from Paul was worth the tiring trip cross country.

Bob my last comments to you about your current build are justified .Seeing the shape and size in the flesh (so to speak)will show those how impressive it is . My grandson was surprised at the boats on display throughout the show and the detail people go to display their boats. Thanks, see you both at Elsmere Port next March laughMichael

Thank you, Mike, for your kind words

Paul and myself had a very nice weekend at the Haydock show, but at closing time, we were dead beat, especially after carrying all the gear back to the car

I'm only just getting back to normal at this time of night!

Paul is very pleased that you tackled the Thor build and making a nice job of it too

The model when built will be very powerful and impressive and should be great fun on the water

It will be nice to it going through it!'s paces, alongside Paul's model at Ellesmere Port

It was a pleasure meeting you and your Son in Law at the show

                                    All the best

                                      Hi Guys,

we're back home on the rock, boat got us in from Liverpool just before midnight, crowded but a nice pleasant trip on the fast craft, Manannan.

Great to meet you both, though we'd not much time to chew the cud. We, like you, had interest throughout the first day and half, though it tailed right off Sunday pm. Complete opposites we were, you at the ground floor entrance at your end and us, hidden away right down at the far end, as far away as possible, and upstairs (the stairs being nicely hidden to view by Bob's Club display presenting a blank screen to the doors, so visitors walked around their front and missed any signs pertaining to the 6 Clubs and displays up stairs in the Final Furlong Bar.)

Bob, the hangman's noose you ordered is in the post! As to the cat and 9 tails, well, Manx cats don't have tails do they?

Now to sort it all out, put away and start getting stuff ready for Warwick in November, only 2 months to go.

Thanks to all who managed to find us at the Vintage Crew display, we all, Gareth, Elizabeth and Theresa really appreciate your interest, questions and small talk. Interaction is what these shows are all about, get up and chat, sometimes about boats and stuff, but just get up and meet the visitors, they've paid to see your builds so get friendly and tell them all about them too.

to those that requested things and stuff from me, I hope to be in touch soon just to confirm my list, sails, string, yachting parts and in one case "how does this work" an answer from the master hopefully, as I had no idea.

                                      Aye, Kim

Paul Thomason and Bob Abell worked very hard all weekend on their stand promoting the hobby and the models that they build. It is always nice for enthusiasts to see the models described on the forum and Gareth Jones' Shemarah II elsewhere in the Convention also created a lot of interest, and a superb model it is too!.

The special guest referred to by Bob was Dr. Jedynakiewicz, the Guest of Honour, who amongst other things is a Deputy Lieutenant of Merseyside as well as being a model enthusiast himself in between being an internationally recognised dentist and lecturer, having written 11 books on the subject. Obligingly (he must do it regularly) prior to the event he supplied the written phonetic pronouncement of his name as 'Dr YED IN A CAVE ITCH', thus saving us the embarrassment of getting it wrong on the day!

As I understand it, the numbers through the doors this year ensured that the Model Boat Convention will once again be able to make a donation to charity, the entire event being non-profit making as it is run and organised by volunteers and supporters, including Mrs F who this year did a stint on the cash desk as well!

Jean Barlow of course is a prime mover in all of this and without her it would be hard to put on such an event.

On the competition side, the Russians came and conquered with their outstanding models in a number of the classes. They had of course had similar success at this year's Naviga World Championships and seeing their models was an inspiration to all.

One of the big plusses of Haydock Park, is that the surroundings are relatively luxurious and most of the rooms used are carpeted, which makes a big difference for those on their feet all day.

So I had to resort to some underhand photo trickery……..I swopped one of the heads round!
