      Hello all 🙂

I was recently given a Billings HSM Renown static kit.
I have been toying with the idea of building it as an R/C model.
I was wondering if anyone out there has any hints & tips before I start?

Any one built the Renown before?

      Many thanks
      Chris

        Hi Chris,

I’m certainly not an expert but I would think displacement will be your first problem. I’ve no idea what ‘renown’ displaced but if we say 25 tons apply scale factor this gives you a model displacement of 1.3lbs (593gms). how much does the kit weigh? Second there looks alot of weight high up – will she be stable?

Hope my thoughts get you on the right line,

        Regards

        Kevin

          Hi Chris,

How have you got on with this? I am thinking about the same idea myself.

          Regards

          Daryl

I was wondering  if you had done it as well. I bought the kit recently and I think it would look good on the water. The superstructure doesn’t seem very heavy to me and there’s a fair bit of displacement, so I think it would work. (I’m currently finishing an Airfix HMS George V which sits at the waterline with six aa cells, radio etc.)

It seems to me that the biggest question is how to adapt the half bulkhead construction to hold the necessary parts. I’m thinking it would probably be best to cut the prop shaft slot before building and then use a router to cut through the keel piece from the inside once each piece is planked. On the bright side there should be some nice big hatches on top to get in through.

             Regards, Grant.
