Hi All

I have watched the first episode of this programme on BBC4 first aired last week narrated by James May regarding the Hornby/Airfix business. It can be viewed on BBC i player, especially interesting the efforts to market a new product, and the change back to the "Old School" Management team brought back to change their fortunes in todays market, Have a look at the S.A.B.L.E concept this must apply to some of us

There is a lively debate already going on the Model Flying (RCM&E) forum, but I'm sure this applies to us.

Hi Dave,

Refering to the kits most of us have in the loft/attic

Stock Available Beyond Life Expectancy – with 300'ish plastic kits in the loft certainly applies to me !!

A-ha! I guess designing kits reduces the chances of overstock significantly – I only have a small Billings static model kit in that category. That said, I do have several sets of pre-cut parts for various Faireys and enough free-issue ply and timber to stock a decent model shop!

Ray , I saw the programme , and whilst overall l found it very interesting , l also found some aspects disturbing , especially the previous management's decision to scrap a major portion of the 9,500 sets of un-replaceable tooling.

l wish the new management all the success in the world , especially in their efforts to compete against not only the likes of Hatton , but also the German manufactures . Having seen the quality from KM 1 Modellbau E.K at last year's Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition at Warwick , as well as other German manufactures at Dormunder last April , they have a mammoth task on their hands .

Yes I agree, almost like somebody scrapped the Crown Jewels interesting the new 1/24th scale Hellcat sold out 5,000 kits straight away

I visited the Hornby Exhibition/Museum in Margate last year, well worth the trip.

Not sure if the second episode did Hornby any favours ? A bit sharp, good to see the new Scalectrics car developed.
