Apologies that this is not in the beginners thread but it looks like more RC advice in there.

About 15 years ago due to illness I made a sergal president boat which I never finished. I have started recently to show an interest in model making again. Looking at the old boat I had all the rigging/rope work to finish which I realised I really am not a great fan of.

I enjoyed the woodwork and planking the hull etc but the vast amount of rope work did nothing for me.

I am looking for advice on what brand & ship would be a good one to get back into it. I have been looking at Billing boats with the RNLI boat (but looks like a plastic hull) or the Andrea Gail boat. My aim is do the SMIT ship at some point.

Am I on the right track or can someone point me in another direction? Also I never used a planking tool last time – are they any good?

      Thanks

One static kit which always looks good when built as is for beginners is Caldercraft's HMS Sherbourne. It was mentioned and discussed a couple of times in this thread recently.
