Colin, Is my article on Band Saws, Boiler Room 147, Dec ’23, available to link to anywhere?
Brian, I purchased an Axminster band saw based on the following:
They are a British based company and provide a superb back up and support service. Before deciding I had a chat with one of their sales people and was very impressed with their knowledge and genuine desire to help. They also run a range of various woodworking courses and support all this with excellent videos on YouTube. The series on looking after your band saw and setting up the blade is particularly informative and superbly presented. My set up is an Axminster band saw, mounted on a workbench next to a Proxxon KS220 table saw. They both have the same size dust extraction nozzle at the back so I have a hose from a vaccuum cleaner available to simply plug into which ever saw I am using at the time. Consequently I get very little dust.
The first time I used the Band Saw was to cut up some resin model railway buildings as they were to be mounted against a back screen. I fully expected the standard blade, which looked a bit fierce, to shatter the resin. Surprisingly it produced a beautiful perfect clean cut. I am very impressed with Axminster and their products.
