Back issues – Advice

Hi, first of all, hands up, I'm not a regular poster, but I'm not trying to sell anything here, just looking for advice from the community. I hope thats ok.

My grandfather recently passed away and while clearing his house we have found his near complete collection of Model Boat magazines from 1962 up until 1997. All have been kept in near perfect condition and as far as I can see are complete with any plans that may have come with them.

I was just wondering if there is any value in these back copies and if there might be any interest out there in them either for their content or just for nostalgia. I don't have room or use for them myself but can't bring myself to bin them. It would be nice to know if there might be a good home out there for them.

Hi Russell,

I am sure many of us (myself included) would love to buy these old magazines, sadly storage space is a factor in this day and age. I do tend to buy the odd old magazine which has an item of interest inside, but couldn't support keeping such a large collection.

Other than selling them on ebay, the magazine exchange buy collections such as this and sell them on as individual copies.

Hello Russell,

A while back, there was a plea for help from the Bradford Model Engineering Society with finding back issues of i.a. Model Boats, after vandals had set fire to their clubhouse: **LINK**.

I don't know if they are still looking, but if they are the magazines would certainly be going to a good home …

I was trying to buy off the original poster as he wants to get rid of the magazines but I am not fussy. I would like them for the articles on the shirley ann trawler.

The December 1988 issue is currently on ebay. The seller (who is located in the US), is selling the magazine as 'buy it now', however the postage cost is expensive.

The postage did scare me however I have messaged him and asked if he would scan the pages I need and email them for the price of the mag

Looking at the postage I would say they are signed up to the GSP " Global Shipping Program) something ebay introduced in the UK a few months back, believe it has been around for a while elsewhere, their postage charges are just silly..
