Prob both Paul  I’ve put a 2 foot ruler in mine  jollifications aside the progress er progresses

Bottom skin is on mind you I’m glad I opted for 1.5mm ply even this thin the bow sect took a bit of steam to ease the compound curves into place.

One thing that chuffed me was the card templates I cut fitted both sides perfectly must be a good and sure sign all is square so to speak. . next Job while the sides are of is to fill the bilges with expanding PU foam to A) give the bottom skin a bit more substance and B) help guarantee water tightness

          You`re doing OK there, Winky!

Are those…NAILS…you`re using?………………..or stainless steel screws?

          Anyway………………..keep up the good work!

They are nails well 1″ large head pins that will be removed before painting/veneering large heads so they don’t pull through the ply and are easier to pry out with a specially adapted 1/4″ chishel (it has a notch in the middle of the blade) then fill the holes and sand like mad. Can any one tell me about the CoG on this style of boat I’m guessing slightly aft of centre so ithe bow rises easier at speed

What sort of glue did you use…….to set so quickly?

The C of G is designed to be mid point between frames 4 and 5.. just where you have the engine but remember the calcs were done on a larger hull with a heavy engine so you might have to add some weight low down around frame 5.

Cheers Bob and Paul that means that fully loaded I’ve got the Cog about an inch or so forward of your design point the bty will slide aft to adjust that. and I thought I might need some lead under the false floor in the cockpit guess its prob not the case still prob going to need to add weight all over just to achieve a decent waterline. The glue I used Bob is called glover bond It is a spray contact  adhesive that you spray on both surfaces and leave to dry completely about 20 mins then the bond is instantaneous although if you use a med dry iron to press the veneer flat while its warm it will slide a little the heat of the iron also helps curve the veneer round the really tight curves. Just one prob having watched me doing this the one who must be obeyed now knows that I can use an iron whoops

Well what a lovely day its been barely a cloud in the sky and varnish has been drying in record time. starting at 5 this morning (to hot to sleep) I’ve got 3 coats on the whole thing and fitted the deck fittings that I’ve made so far

I’ve also biten the bullet and reckoning there was enough varnish on I’ve given it a bath test. its weight at present is 5.125kg 11.3lbs and with the CoG set where you designed it Paul it sit 1/2″ above the chine at the stern to 1/4″ below at the bow. how does this sound to you should I add a little more weight do you think

I still have to upholster the seats and make a proper dash with dials etc buy the props and not forgetting a figure or two plus endless coats of varnish and one or two cosmectic fixes including that bit of missing venneer at the bow see last pic its under the chrome tape at present but all in all I think I’m well on target for proper water trials in July.

Done a little bit more today despite suffering the sunburn I got working in the garden yesterday. Obviously more varnish but mainly two little details that had been niggling me. one was the construction of a grab rail for the motor hatch.

This was achieved with some 3mm ali tube for the rail 6mm tube for the stanchions and the dome cut from the top of some 4mm chrome capnuts ingenious eh

the other issue was how to secure the rope I’ve made for the painters so it looked well ship shape. the solution in the end was common-a-garden super glue. the home wound painter rope was attached to the morring eye (using a clove hitch of course) then the deck and rope sprayed with CA activator then as I formed the coil a little thin superglue was dribbled on to the rope this both stiffened the rope and secured it to the deck the effect is conving don’t you think

                          Sorry I missed your question.
She is sitting a little low at the bow and slightly high at the stern so I would suggest either moving the battery pack toward the stern or adding some extra weight in the rear section….perhaps another battery pack that would provide the weight and give you extra play time.

Thanks for that paul there’s possibly room for the 2nd bty pack however do you think it’s likely to need another 1lb of ballast rear of the CoG? I’m thinking I’ll keep it as an option during the water trials. Which by the way may be sooner than the est 1st week in july I put the 1st coat of Yacht varnish on today. thats 10 coats of high build PU varnish + 1 of yacht varnish on her now and just look at the way the shine is developing. not quite there yet but another 10 days or so ????

As you may have noticed I wasn’t happy with the windscreen and so have redesigned it more in keeping with those I’ve seen in the Chris craft archives

I finally found some red leatherette for the seats and to protect her from dust I spent a pound in the pound shop for a pvc cycle cover and pressed the domestic sewing machine into service

Your right Bob it has been so far imense fun and incredibly satisfying. given that its my 1st ever truly scratch built (well very nearly true) I’m pleased with the emerging result. Not quite in pauls league especially finish wise, He really is a master of that skill and I’m very rusty in that department. Still its a learning curve and (poor exscuse I know) this one was only ever intended as a good stand off scale model.

I have to admit to a sense of real excitement (how juvinile eh) my club mates comments at the meeting last night really chuffed me too and some of them have been at this 40 odd years.

It worked well Paul. just two minor issues 1 the trim needs to be a bit further aft than I can get without adding some lead 2 I need to address a cooling issue with the esc. at full throttle it over heats a little quick. as I see it a second esc would reduce the workload and an esc cooling plate would help enormously.
