      Dear All

Colin wrote a very concise article about airbrushing in the last issue of the magazine.

I would like to take this opportunity to commend his writing skills in making this difficult subject both interesting and informative.

If you are doubtful about using an airbrush I would definitely recommend reading Colin's words.

      Paul

ps Is there any chance that one of these quality airbrushes will end up as a competition prize

Nope, sorry, the airbrushes we used on the course are part of the course equipment. Nice pieces of kit though.

Glad you like the article, I found it all very educational.

            Hello Colin

Your article is very informative and hopefully will help to dispel some of the myths surrounding airbrushing.

What the article does illustrate is the quality and usability of the equipment.

For most of the readers their only experience of airbrushing is with cheap kits and the resulting spatter finish, this can be likened to trying to achieve a quality paint finish with a yard brush and the resulting distrust of such equipment.

              Hi Colin,

agree with Paul's comments, very informative. When at the Dortmund show 3 years back I wanted an airbrush (I had a couple of cheapies which I couldn't work very well) so went to a stand. After being questioned as to what I wanted it for and to do, I was offered a double action brush. I was even given one on the stand to use for some minutes and was so surprised at how easy and how well a good set up airbrush works. Convinced, I bought one, an Affinity something.

Yes I paid just over £100 but have never looked back – and now I can get my old airbrushes to work nearly as well, and all because I was shown one and how to use it.

I've been to and displayed at many model boat shows throughout the British Isles and I've never seen an airbrush displayed. I think those that went to the Manchester Boat show this March came nearest, had they turned right exiting the toilets and gone to the "tattoo and body art show" where several were in use – but at a boat show – nardar!

And buy the best paint brushes too (sable) – quality works!

                Kim,

I think the key phrase there is 'well set up' – makes all the difference. I did enjoy the course but haven't yet had the opportunity to get down to some airbrushing since as I am concentrating on getting this year's Special issue ready at the moment.

I must say that just holding such a well crafted piece of equipment is nice, you are in no doubt that it is exactly designed for the job with no compromises.

                  Hi Colin,

yes, once it's demonstrated how a brush should work and how to set it up, then they're wonderful things. They are just not the type of thing that comes out the box, plug into some air and away you spray. And it doesn't take that much time to tune one up – when you have been shown and know how it should work.

And your comments about cleaning after use – done well the brush will work again, skimped and it'll never perform properly – and cleaning can be so easy with the right cleanser, brush, cotton wool buds and box of tissues! Since I got hooked all my painting is acrylic too, so much easier and far, far less volatiles in the air, and not flammable.

                  Kim

PS Richard C hard at words for your article.

Like they say buy cheap buy twice.

I hope you are not sailing in the Ben tomorrow, that low is going to bite hard.
