Hello there I have a old 80's dewalt bandsaw the switch has gone and can no longer buy the parts so have ordered a dol motor starter . Does anyone know how to wire up an ac single phase motor with a capicitor inline ? Also this motor has 4 wires , live , netrual , ground and a black .

      Any help appreciated.

Ashley there are so many variations of ac induction motors it's confusing which type and how to wire it and can't seem to find anyone who wants to touch it a tool repairers don't want to as its old and electricians don't do things with motors been told . Just don't want to get rid of a old decent machine where it's just a switch and knowing how to wire up !

Tricky. Just put in dol ac motor starter in our Bing browser and under images this comes up with loads of pictures and sample wiring diagrams.. In fact having just paused and looked further down the list, under DOL starter diagram, theres simply loads of them.

Perhaps a more in depth look might be in order. My modern DeWalt does not appear to have a separate starter, would it be possible to change the motor instead and use an ordinary switch?

OR is it possible to get a compatable switch rather than use the DOL?

If it is just the switch, why not open the switch and see what contacts it has inside. How many wires go to the switch? Can't see it being mcuh of a problem if you are sure it is just the switch!
