Most evenings weather and tide permitting I'll go for a walk along the beach and yesterday evening I got sight of this tug beached for some much needed work . Walking over to the tug I noticed the familiar lines of a TID tug and sure enough it was a TID43 still going strong after 70 plus years and under the name of Seaport Alpha .

            Towing Invasion Duties

            Tug Invasion Duty

            Tug Inshore Defence

            Tug Inshore Duties

            Tug Inshore and Dock

            Tug In Dock

            Tug Intermediate Design

              Dave and Bob

When I was researching the TIDs I was lucky enough to talk with a chap who's father had worked at Richard Dunston Ltd, he had a small archive of diaries and working drawings where the TIDs were referred to as Tug Inshore & Dock.

                  Well done Paul

Although there seems to be no recognised official definition of TID

                  So Paul's version is accaltable

Unless you know differently of course?

Just spotted this tug on the net

It was taken at Liverpool and looks like a TID?

In this case, TID stands for………. Tugboat In Drydock…..lol

It looks very similar and about the right age too?

                          Let`s have a 2nd opinion…….What does Dave say?……It`s his thread, afterall!

                          ( Club gathering tonight….SloMo sails again )

                            Bob

Compare the chine joint between the two boats

                            img_0441.jpg photo tid.jpg

The TID has a very defined and very square looking joint whereas your tug has a very smooth and rounded chine.

                            Paul

Hi Bob comparing the two tugs the one at Holyhead has a definite round on the bilge, bilge keels probably a more traditional hull form . Any idea as to the name of the tug pictured at Holyhead?

                                    Don't know that site, Paul

They experts agree that it's not a Tid

Someone has suggested…..Roscoff being the name, but doubt it

                                    All good fun
