With D-Day in mind, and thoughts of Landing Craft, I thought others might be interested to see these photos of a couple of surviving Landing Craft to be found in Normandy.

          Robin

We went on a Shearings tour of the Normandy area, a few years back and found it very interesting, staying in Caen

i find the wartime relics absolutely awesome

Your landing craft doesn't look very war like? I would have expected protective shields all round at least, and a few bullet holes

Any pictures showing this type of craft in action?

            Hi Bob,

These were unarmoured, and in as in this case unarmed, save for a pintle mounted Lewis gun. So no, no protective shields. Some US built versions did have two .30 mounted in forward gun positions, but this is not one of those. The other Higgins boats you can see in the photos had two .30 cal positions which you can see plated over, near the back.

As for photos, have a look at this link which shows them well.

I like the opening photo of the LCP(L)…….Very warlike indeed!

                  Hi Robin

The models are very good but can you tell us what scale they are,…Bob would ask for a tranny in the photo..( but we have done that joke)

Oh!….So that's what that lorry was doing on your tugboat picture!

                    It's a Transit Van!……..Tranny……….I get it now

I was a bit slow there, Paul

                    Bob

PS…….When you next show a ruler for scale comparison…..You could show Henry the Eighth!

I'll get my own back, one day!

I did try photoshopping you in a dress but thought it in bad taste.

                        Hi Paul,

Thank you. They are all to 1/76 scale. The LCP (L)itself is about 5 1/2 inches long.

                            Hi Bob,

Thanks for the note but no worries, I smiled too.teeth 2

Talking of photoshop though, this is another 1/76 model I built back in 2008. Also by Milicast, the much larger LCI(L), and which is about 2ft in length. Thanks to photo editing, it 'put to sea'. wink 2
