after making a 37" wooden hulled perkasa years ago, ( it did get completely ruined in a house move before being finished) i recently saw a grp hulled version for sale and snapped it up.

just came on the low loader this morning. Its an unstarted kit with all parts bagged and I've just inspected the hull.

There is some flare at the top of the hull sides. Was this the quality issue that caused them to stop making the grp hulls ?

I have seen some of cookies pics showing assembly of the hull ribs/frames in a jig. would this be why ? or would a jig be recommended as good practice ?

I'm aware the superstructures on these will be heavy and the plan is to recreate as much of the superstructure in lighter material where possible.

      thanks

Hi Rob , Yes the jig was only to hold the hull true whilst i fitted the frames in place with P40 . To make the jig i clamped the hull upside down to a dead flat surface to pull the twist out then built the jig around the hull and down the the flat surface , then turned the jig and hull the right side up and fitted the frames . Once the P40 had gone off i removed the jig and the hull was dead flat .

            cheers for that.

is the flare supposed to be present at the top of the hull sides ?

overall mine seems to have no twist

Rob , Forgot to tell you all the frames in the fit don,t fit so i made my own out of 7mm ply and the deck suppliyed was way to small , i could not find a model shop that had 14 inch x 49 inch ply but by chance my local builders merchants had 3mm birch ply 5 foot x 4 foot for a tenner ( bargin)
