It was a great 1st sail of our spring/summer season! Big turn out of the crew, no wind,  a bit of sun.
Tiny geared motor turned up yesterday for the upper fwd radar installed it and tested it on 2 AA batteries its rotates at 20 rpm and looks just right for the smaller radar, especially with the big SPS-48 turning slower just below.

Have finally made up railings for fwd mast used 1.2mm brass rod for rear side of platforms to stiffen the outer ends( they appeared 2 have a slight droop after the actual bracing finished) still need 2 di second rail for brass rails will CA some styrene in. The fwd side is styrene rod pre glued together using the jig a friend made for soldering the brass  rods (works just as well !)

And have made up the railing for the antenna platform on fwd side of aft mast with the Xmas tree antenna (not sure of its designation)

Pix also shows the rebuilt SPS-49 base section with cable trunking

        Cheers Bruce

Been doing more detailing and took CGN-9 to the South Australian Scale model expo for a club display we put on 2 entice interest in big RC models… Ran in to a couple of people who have or r starting 1/72 scale models ranging from  Paul with a Flower class Corvette 2 a young bloke who has begun a Bismark!! and another who is just starting HMS Hermes ( Falklands era). Great fun ran around trying not 2 spend 2 much!!

lights on in hanger( they R 1.8mm warm white LED’s there R also a couple of red LED’s for night Op’s lighting)

Hanger detail is mostly made up of scrap’s and a bit of styrene rod for uprights.

Hi Bruce Looks like you all has a superb weekend  but a spot of Brit weather so I hear  LB   is looking good  but what  a   trip , that’s more miles than I  clock up  to events  in a year !!!!! Now that’s dedication  and I believe your  Long Beach  also gained an award.

Bruce, amazing work! Just noticed this thread, also saw pics of your LB on the TF72 site. LB’s on my list of “wants to build” since building a Revell one in my distant teens.

In regards to other USN CG conversions, I’m trying to gather info now (very sparse and hard to find) to produce one of the “Tall Ladies” in 1/72, most probably Chicago CG-11 (I built the Monogram model many years back too …. still have it). Then there’s Boston too ………………

I’m in Western Sydney and just missed out on attending the regatta at Wentworth Falls as a spectator.

                          Keep up the amazing work!!!!!
