Interesting question. Our club built around 22 plus jet boats as a group project. a few years back. [with my limited skills my contribution was the motor mounts, four per boat] The original concept was to use 30cc I/C weed eater motors converted from air to water cooled. Fitted to a basic hull about 42inches. One or two keen types have tuned them to good performance. Now this last year along comes one member with a new hull and just an 18cc motor. This barely tuned up goes as fast or faster than any and runs level, as opposed to the ‘climbing’ trim of 30cc motored boats which have never got up level that I’ve seen. To me the moral of this story is not to weigh down the boat so it has to climb instead of running level. or waste power by fitting trim tabs to lift the stern. Don’t know if this tuppence worth is of value to you
