I will avoid the 'round the bend' joke and the two nuns in a bath.

Two racehorses in a stable bragging about how good they are. First horse, "I've been in 40 races and only lost twice." Second horse "That's nothing I've been in 45 races and never lost"

Just then a greyhound by the stable door said "That's nothing, I've been in 400 races and won every one by at least a length."

"Wow" says the first horse "That's amazing….a talking dog."

A white horse walks into a bar and the barman says " Hey! We've got a Scotch named after you!".
The horse says "What – Sid?"

A tired and rain-sodden travelling salesman wanders into a bar and asks if there are any beds for the night. The barman says "Are you sure you're in the right joke, mate?"

              {If you two don't behave I'll post some more of these……..}

Englishman, Scotsman and Irishman are all working on a construction site, building a new skyscraper in London. It's lunchtime and they're all sat atop the building. Englishman opens up his lunchbox to see what his wife has packed him.

"Ugh… Ham and cheese sandwich… again. Im sick of ham and cheese sandwiches, it's the same every bloody day. If I get another ham and cheese sandwich in my lunch box tomorrow I'm jumping off the top of this building."

Next, the Scotsman opens up his lunch box.

"Aackk, jam sandwich… again. I cannee go on like this eating jam sandwiches every day of me life! If I get the same again tomorrow I'm jumping as well."

                  Next it's the Irishman's turn.

"Ohh for fecks sake! Not another egg and cress sandwich! That's the fourth one in a row this week! I'm with you boys, one more egg and cress sandwich and I'm jumping!"

So next day they sit at the top of the building to have lunch. One by one they open up their lunch boxes… Englishman finds another ham and cheese sandwich, so off he jumps, and splats into the ground below. Scotsman finds another jam sandwich… Off he goes…Splat. Irishman, egg and cress sandwich… Splat.

A week or so later later the three widows are talking at the memorial service. English widow says, through tears, "I still can't believe it, had no idea George hated ham and cheese so much, if only i'd known…"

Scottish widow says "Duncan did say he was getting a bit bored of Jam, but I didn't realise he hated it that much, I just wish he'd have let me know how he really felt."

Irish widow says "I… I just don't understand… Paddy packed his own lunch."

I did warn you…….. IMHO this was Dave Allen's finest joke:

A man was trekking through the wild Transylvanian forest. Weary and hot from walking for hours he came across an inn at dusk, with lights blazing and merry laughter coming from inside. “That’s just what I need!” he thought and went in.
He ordered a large foaming glass of cold beer and was just about to take the first sip when a man burst through the door, wild-eyed and terrified.
“The wolves are coming!” he cried “It’s the wolves!!”.
Immediately the barman opened a trapdoor behind the bar and everyone rushed to climb down into the cellar – our traveller included. Everybody held their breath in terror.
After a while there was a scuffling sound from up above, and then silence resumed.
When he got back to his seat our man found his glass was empty. This he thought odd but nevertheless wasn’t going to be left dry, so he ordered another beer.
Again, just as the rim of the glass touched his lips another man rushed in, crying “The wolves are coming! It’s the wolves again! They’ve not finished with us yet!!”
Again, the trapdoor was thrown open and all rushed to climb down. Again, after some scuffling in the bar there was silence and the assembly climbed back up. The traveller was amazed to find his glass had been emptied again, so for the third time he ordered a beer, then turned to watch the door.
“The wolves are coming – the wolves – it’s the wolves again!!”
Trapdoor was opened and all rushed down to the cellar; all, that is, except our traveller, who had become very suspicious of this.

“I don’t care” he said. “I’ve bought three beers and I intend to drink this one”. “But mister the wolves are coming. THE WOLVES!!”

“Then let them come” he said calmly, and sat back to drink his beer…..

                      .And so the wolves came

                      .

                      .

                      And they ate him

                      .

                      .

.And then they drank his beer.

RIP Dave Allen – Simply the best.

                        Hi Ray

I was in the construction game all of my life and worked all over but the only place I that ever came across an English, Scotts, Irish and Manxman on the same site was on the Isle of Man.

                        Never been to Australia though.

Made a start on covering the hull with 0.25mm card

The joints and mismatches have been filled with undiluted Acrylic water based paint and have turned out quite nice

                            Making good progress now

Finished the card covering on the hull

Undercoated the bottom and white primed the hull

Can I mention again, using Acrylic undiluted water based paint was a great idea for filling the cracks etc and can be applied with a flat brush in all the crooks and nannies

It`s very quick drying and being a paint, it`s perfectly smooth

Acrylics are very inexpensive too…….I use The Works shops

I like the funnel Bob. Many of these old cruisers seem to have had funnels even if they had ic engines- including the one that this design was based on. I think it would look better if it was elliptical though> it would be more thirties than steam era. I think the boat is looking very nice and I look forward to seeing how it turns out.

                                    All the best,

Thanks chaps, for posting your opinions on the matter

The chimney will stay, especially, since it contains three turned wooden rings in its construction and took quite some time to make

Sorry Ian, can't make it elliptical now!

It can still be an add on item though

I'm glad the funnel will stay Bob. Just one further thought, having looked at quite a few photos of this type of craft, I wonder if the funnel is too steeply raked. Looking at the original Sea Dog and other boats, they tended to be more upright. But again, if you have glued it on it may be a bit late!

Well, it was just a thought, Bob. It is hard to tell from the photos what the rake is. I think the funnel on Sea Dog looks awkwardly vertical! It is hard to get these things just right. Might be worth making some card mock-ups to try different heights and angles.

Whatever you end up doing it will look great, I'm sure.

If we are going to accept the funnel as part of this design perhaps the engineering dept might give some thought to a smoke generator.

I say this in all seriousness as I am sure that you would be able to manufacture a decent smoke machine that will produce more than a thin whisp.

Bob. My public build is currently mired in the sea that is the making and painting of very small parts, not in themselves worthy of much news at the moment!

The funnel. Go with what you like. As for smoke…would not the boat have been diesel powered??? A lot of these sorts of boats had funnels simply as a style thing and not to effervesce steam, so a non steaming funnel would be ok.
