Well, Titanic or Brush – either way it's a race to the bottom!

        (sorry)

          Hello Colin

It was a little off topic but I thought it best to warn the membership about this new fad. Now when Kevin visits a friends house and see's one in the bathroom he will know to buy his friend some Germolene for Christmas.

But, given your reticence about wandering off topic, I won't warn Kevin about the perils of using Veet on his gentleman's area, I will merely ask him to imagine two bright red plum like objects with a sensitive area that extends 3ft in all directions.

              Hello Ray

Let`s get back on an even keel

The model is progressing well, with various bits and pieces being added daily

Just adding the wooden Go Faster strips at the moment, before painting the hull etc

Note how handy the G-Clamp clamp is, for handling curves?

Cut out a sample card window frame to see how they would look…..Not bad?

                    Hello Bob

For the first time ever I'm not sure about your creative alterations to a design, on the original drawings the forward hull sides came up above the foredeck and the forward hatch is smaller and acts as a rooflight, (which looks like a low greenhouse) for the cabin.

I didn't intend to have a funnel as this style of launch had a petrol engine with exhaust through the transom.

                    deck level.jpg

However this is only my opinion and my view might change when the boat is complete as you usually pull a rabbit out of the hat.

                      Now you tell me!

There are no side walls on my drawing and none on the full size boats either

                      See your early photos

I agree the hatch is over size……..I can easily reduce it at this stage

                        Hello Captain

I see the problem, when I first started this thread for the original VGC I said that the design was based upon The Sea Dog but I had taken some liberties with sizes and shapes. However you liked the The Sea Dog pictures so much that we decided to build the VGC in the same style.

I re-drew the project to reflect the changes so the recessed deck disappeared and things like the rear cockpit were added.

Your new VGC is a hybrid of both designs.

I looked through the first set of drawings and found this section:

                          No problem Paul

I'll sort it out at my end

We could do with a typical cross section of the model, for a better understanding of the intended build

There is not a problem here at all of course, we are splitting hares. The flush deck looks ok to me. I like the funnel, adds interest. The design is made up therefore is not/cant be ruined by a few artistic alterations??

As I think I previously posted, It is Bobs build and he can do what he wants. And does.

UNLESS you are someone who disagrees with alterations to their design, which I know is not the case with Paul.

I have had what I took to be a snotty pm when I was building something based on a free magazine plan (not this mag, an ex-mag) which I was very cross about. I was building something inspired by the designer, and instead of offering encouragement I got a, well, snotty post. How this furthers our hobby I do not know,.

The lad went to a military type show recently, and he is a young lad, and is keen and has purchased some replica WW2 battledress stuff and went dressed accordingly., He is not in a re-enactment group (yet) and does not have the full monty in authentic equipment and so on. Apparently he went to a stall at this show and was slagged off by some chap (presumably in pukka apparel) for not having this right, or that right or….. I tell you, if I had been there I would have given this anorak a piece of my mind. Where is the encouragement…how can this chap expect the next tranche of enthusiasts to take up arms when this is sort of thing happens at a show.

leading by example I always take a lander along for kids to try to foster the hobby, and there are no rivet counters at Bushy Park.

                            Sorry. Rant over.

                              What are friends for, hey?

I have a strong instinctive urge to modify the build anyway, in accordance with Paul`s last minute design change!

As a sort of challenge, for some weird reason

                              I find the idea interesting

Sorry I read about your unpleasant meetings with Joe Publik…….Not to concern yourself

                              It`s their loss, not yours

                                Captain Bob

Very sorry about the last minute design change, dated January 2013, please don't try to adapt the existing hull as it might ruin all of your hard work.

Unlike some scribblers I'm not bothered about any changes to my designs besides, as Ashley says, its your boat and you can do whatever you like.

I think the deck walls will be a welcome addition to the simple appearance of the model?

I'll knock up some temporary mock ups to see how she looks

Nothing ventured, nothing gained…….As they say

Not really a problem, I can either leave it as it is or add to the wall height

The model is 1000mm overall and my heights are 12mm for the main deck, with 16 and 22mm on the fore deck

                                          Still enjoying the build

                                            Hello Bob

The high prow is for the sea travel and indicative of style of river cruiser that occasionally ventured into the estuary or nipped across the channel.

As every river cruiser of that period was hand built they invariably varied in style or design depending upon the clients wishes so your model can be whatever you want it to be.

The capping is looking good especially in the area of the deck step as you have turned an awkward connection into a very nice detail.

Many thanks to Paul for your kind comments

It`s been quite a complicated job, adding the side walls and capping etc, but it was interesting, making a Silk Purse out of a Sows ear

                                                    I`m enjoying the build

Credit where credit is due but is the design really a Sows ear?
