The trick about advice is knowing when – and to whom – to offer it and when to shut up. As one of my correspondents has it "listen politely, nod approvingly, then do what you want".

Samuel Taylor Coleridge has deep and meaningful thoughts about advice but I have a more pragmatic view that can be summed up in the phrase 'Model boating is a double chin hobby'

                  I`ve called this photo……Friendly Persuasion………He He He…….(Fiendish laugh)

The Bow sheet is on the Rack at the moment with a good dousing every now and then

And is slowly coming round to my way of thinking!

Further sheeting work is under way at the stern, by that crowd of builders yonder, wearing blue jeans and orange safety hats……( Looks like it, anyway )

                    Hi Bob

I much prefer your nicely curved gunwhale stringer now, rather than you earlier concave job to the stem, perhaps you would enjoy double diagonal planking ? with thinner strips to achieve the compound curve at the bow, and does away with the built in stresses in the ply which really wants to be flat !! It might also slow you down and you wouldn't have the sheets to join in the topsides. What thickness ply are you using ?

                    Regards Ray

                      Thank you, Ray

I haven`t created the run of the stringers……..I just joined up the notches in the formers

The top stringer was a little severe and since adding the 1mm ply sheet, the top edge has not followed the stringer too closely……..But looks ok to my liking

The hull sides above the waterline will be covered with decorators wall lining paper, as I did with the original Lady Joyce model

See original posts, on this thread for the nice effect, the paper created

I`ve got a nice length of 6mm x 2mm brass that would look very posh under the keel and up the prow?

                                It`s Warts `n all tonight

Managed to sheet over the pointy bit……..And has turned out quite good, surprisingly

I`ve used 3mm soft ply and in parts, it was under tortuous forces of persuasion!

Only hope it doesn`t spring apart in the night

                                  Hello Captain Bob

The ply should be ok providing it doesn't de-laminate. I didn't include this advice on the drawing but I always make sure the ply stays in place by using mechanical fixings as well as epoxy glue.

Small brass screws counter-sunk into the ply and fixed into the frame not only make it easier to fit the ply, as they do the job of clamps, they also guarantee that the part won't fail when the boat is out on the water.

Its looking very good especially from your first 'cleaning up photo' from this angle the bow looks as sinuous as I hoped it would.

Could you take some more photos of the bow showing the curves please.

                                          Hi Paul

I`m pleased that the kinky Bows shape meets with your approval, it`s worked out really nice

I`m working on the other side now and all the usual clamping areas are now covered over!

Having to invent reliable alternative methods……….Will bring tears of joy to ones eyes!

The first piece is being wetted and twisted, but there are no gripping point now

                                            Having to resort to levers!

The wood is under heavy pressure at the moment, I`m quite pleased with the method

To the Works Manager from the Design Office

Not wishing to tell you how to suck eggs but you can use small screws as temporary fixings whilst the glue dries, after the glue is fully set remove the screws and fill the holes.

With this method there is no danger of Heath Robinson being hit by flying elastic bands so the elf and safety man will be happy.

Levers and heavy weights are best at the moment

Nuts and bolts may be ok?

There's no material in the hull to screw into………That's why I suggested nuts and bolts

The first piece being twisted at the moment, is as tough as old boots and refuses to knuckle under

The normal plastic clamps can't squeeze hard enough
