For the members who are not familiar with the unusual motor drive, here it is…….

The video says they are 540's but they are actually 4 x MFA Torpedo 850's

      They either run as 2 X 2 or 1 X 4

I had forgotten how pretty the VGC looked on the water especially when making a bow wave, I appreciate that the 'pinched design' of the bow looks odd but it does produce a very nice swim.

The Abell Drive certainly works well pushing that mass around and they even overcome the drag caused by the trolley wheels.

          Thank you Paul

We had a very nice day yesterday and was very impressed with the motor drives and how the well batteries lasted, they were still full of life even after 1 1/2 hours stooging around

Looking forward to the club regatta next month………See you there with Brutus?

Would be nice to meet again

I would love to bring Brutus to your regatta but I am having a senior moment trying to bind the transmitter to the receiver.

I like the composition and the crispness of the photo…….Hand held telephoto shot

Hey up!…….What's Bob up to now?

Looks like he's starting another build, said Kevin

What are you up to now, Bob?……I hear you all shout in unison

Ah!……You've caught me at it!………I just got a bit bored and found Paul's early VGC design, a 39" Lady Jane, so I thought I'd have a go

"It's about time you did something useful for a change"……Said Lady Joyce, watching Emmerdaie

After the success of our last outing of Lady Joyce the large VGC…….I'm looking forward to the good old days of scratch building and OTT motor drives……..Mmmmmmm?

It was far too hot to make any sensible progress today

Just posting the work in progress for the interested members and I always like to look back at the embryo stage

Cut out the two layer keel and a couple of formers

                      Hi Chaps

Another very hot day is forecast for today…….Gor blimey!…….I hate it, but Lady Joyce, being on Warfarin etc…….Absolutely loves it !

Working on the formers at the moment, which are being cut from all the scrap lying about in the workshop

I`m even stooping to gluing odd pieces together…….The weather is great for glue setting

These simple chat postings are really intended for my twin brother Geoff, not being so well, he likes to be kept up to date

PS……The thread is attracting a large number of members, but I wish they would say something?

Another epic build…are you sure you can stand the heat up in your workshop?

I am playing around with salt water fuel cells at the moment, lots of fun but not really practical for anything bigger than 1m

What`s a salt water fuel cell?

You`re quite right…….Far too hot upstairs, but I`ve managed to cut a few more out today

                            Hello Bob

In its most basic form if you put a few drops of salt water onto a small sheet of magnesium you create a small electrical current.

There are a few articles on the Internet that discuss the technology in greater detail.

If you are really interested in salt water power then look up John Kanzius who is having some fun with his RFG [Radio Frequency Generator] igniting salt water.

For the benefit of the Newbies, Greenhorns and the just plain curious…….and GIA

This is my method of reproducing the Former shapes onto the plywood

Spread the paper drawing over the ply and pop through the salient points with a Bradawl

Then join the dots up with a Biro and the job`s a good `en

Only got two more formers to cut out, then we can move into the 3rd Dimension!

                                Today`s tip…………..Get yourself a Bandsaw for an easy life……..You won`t regret it

                                      Hi Bob

I'm glad to see you have a new project on the go And not wishing to try and teach you to suck eggs, I'd review the shape of your first bulkhead, you seem to have lost the chine angle, and you would end up with a straight stringer from the second bulkhead to the stem. This is why many designs have a breast hook at chine level to achieve a nice curve on the chine to the stem.

                                      Kind regards Ray

                                                Have you designed it?

Saw one of your model aircraft designs too……..Excellent

I drafted the model building plans from the fullsize design from the late 50's its 1/12th scale just 22" long, as I think the wooden homebuilt classics need to be remembered. I have built some fullsize boats in the past but then you have to pay to keep them somewhere ! so models for me now. One of my better aeroplanes was the twin engine Bristol Freighter in the RCM&E a few years back, which used to fly to France from Lydd aerodrome in Kent near me.
