Thank you, Andy…….Nice boat complete with line drawing too……..Worth a thought

Thank you, Cookie……..We both fancy making something, but don't want to make a bad choice at such an early stage

Paul, thanks for the Huntress reminder………Don't fancy the idea of having to have an OTT motor drive

I still fancy the idea of a Dunkirk little ship, but not the VGC or Ellie shape, for obvious reasons

I've already had a good look at the range, but nothing has jumped out yet

          Something will present itself shortly

            Bob,

MHS have some attractive leisure craft designs that could be scaled to whatever size appeals to you.

That's not a bad idea, Colin

              Will take a long look

A Vic Smeed design has it's attractions…….Especially scaled up?

Come on Bob you can be more inventive than simply buying an off the shelf design, I know that Colin means well in pointing you toward the Hobbystore Plans but you would soon become bored of a build that didn't have any surprises or present an opportunity for you to be inventive.

Keep looking at the little ships and you will find a suitable and challenging subject.

For example the Thames Tug Simla which played a pivotal role in the evacuation.

In as much as it has a hull and a tall funnel wink…..oh and it goes in the water

                      Hello Paul

I just fancy a change from the head scratching type of build and have been considering Vic Smeeds Silver Mist, but scaled up to 42 inch

The model shown was made by Ian Gardner and you have commented on this model a few years ago

Worth a look and a talk?

                      Bob

Simla, also looks similar to the newer S.T. Cervia, preserved in Ramgate.

Again a (Vic Smeed) plan is available.

                          Bob,

Ian's 'Silver Mist' is 36" long. I think he still has the model.

                            Hi Tony

Thanks for the links I was hoping to interest Bob in building a 6ft tug but it looks as though he fancies something more sedate.

                            Captain Bob

The Silver Mist is a lovely boat and at 42in you will have to go a long way to do better than Ians superb example. Still there is no need to draw it as all you will need is an enlarging photocopier.

                              Hi Paul

A six foot tugboat would take some handling and would have to have a powerful motor system and the usual crazy battery setup

The 42 inch Silver Crystal seems just the job for a light heated build, I like the idea that it's a Vic Smead design too

I could still fit an Abell drive unit for added interest

Many thanks Tony for your suggestions, much appreciated and thanks to Paul also

                              Bob

Bit of a surprise to see my Silver Mist being discussed here! As Tony says, Bob, it is 36'' long. Vic Smeed's original was 21''. If it's of interest, my model weighs about 14lb so, according to my rough calculations a 42'' one would weigh about 22lb.

I don't think you could go far wrong with a lovely old Vic Smeed design. I've just finished a 25'' Mistral.

Why not have a look at Tony's list of Vic's designs? One I always fancied was Lorraine, a 54'' motor cruiser, still in the catalogue. It's 1:16 but could be reduced as the design apparently weighs a hefty 35lb. (As you can tell I'm a bit obsessed with the weights of boats!)

Have fun deciding on your next project and I look forward to following progress.

                                All the best,

                                Ian

I'm also very pleased that I'm settled on a Vic Smeed design…….I've had a look at Vic range of models and was very impressed with his output of quality designs

I'll start a build thread now for the build

Do you know Bob, that was exactly the boat I had in mind! A lovely round bilge design with lots of opportunity for scale building.

The bulbous hull is very attractive and POF construction is great fun

Is the model based on a full size craft, somewhere?

Thank you Colin, for the very comprehensive link to the work of Vic Smeed and his model history and the fine efforts of Ian Gardner and Tony Hadley……..To mention just a few

The article looks very professional……Is it an extract from a special issue?

The Silver Mist build has got it's own thread now

No doubt, Lady Joyce will be making an appearance at the club regattas in the summer

I remember looking for it in WH Smiths at the time, but with no luck and I suppose it gradually got forgotten

I've got the issue showing Vic launching a big yacht on the front cover though

I also had a few of his booklets, but alas, they went the same way as GE!

It`s the Etherow Club Regatta next Sunday……….Don`t get too excited………There`s a slight snag!

Parking on a Sunday is normally a chronic mad scramble, but this Sunday, we`ve got the Club Regatta…..And the full size boats have something special on………And shiver me timbers………There`s a two day Music Festival on too!………..All sharing the same car park!

So we are not attending this year……….Luckily, we have an evening regatta in August

Instead, Duckie and I are off to the Colwyn Bay regatta in the camper van, taking SloMo2 and Brutus

Not only but also………But thinking of squeezing in, the Gentleman`s Vintage Cruiser!

That would make a splendid spectacle………Hopefully

Just fired up the motors and all is running nicely……….Including the other boats too

All three boats were designed by Paul Thomason and we hope Paul may make an appearance at the show?

A few pictures of the GVC`s motors having a test run, with a few stiffs on standby……Not forgetting Fido of course
