      Hi Bob

Sorry hav'nt been on for a while, been a guest of the NHS, tempus a pest.angry As a regard to nav light, l use plastic beads from a local haberdashery stall in the market, l drill a 3mm hole in the base, place 3mm LED and glue in. The facets in the bead make it look like a lantern. 200oms for red, 150 for green, or 430 red 310 green. Hope this helps.

      Regards Dave

          Hi Bob

I should have said, the lower numbers are for 6v, the higher are 12v. The numbers are for the ultra bright LED from component-shop. I like LED's over all others because they are fit and forget. I don't think l'll make Haydock this year. but l wish you all, all the beat with your models, and get some tin for the shelf.surprisesurprise

          Regards Dave

Here`s another little video, filmed by Duckie, the club`s resident answer to MGM

A little run round Coniston pool, prior to the Haydock Show this weekend, for the VGC and SloMo

We like using the pool…..It`s such a novelty

            Here we go…..

Hope all goes well at Haydock, enjoy yourselves.

                Thank you, Colin

The Pea Soup effect looks more photographic, being a darkish colour, as it hides the wheels and props etc

                Might be worth bottling shortly?

                What`s on next?………..Duckie`s Ducky……….Wait and see!

Thanks for that Bob will check their web site,

Yes it's a good show at Haydock, many fine models are on display, nice to meet Paul and yourself after all the help you both have been, hopefully Siadwell will be ready to display for next years show and you now know the correct pronunciation of Siadwell lol.

Picked up a couple of bargains there including a 12v 9ah battery for £12 and some hss slitting blades for my slit saw.

Will be taking my Beagle Rosie to the top of the hill I live on, to watch the Red arrows take off from Hawarden airport shortly, they will fly overhead to get to the air display at Rhyl , should be a good sight.

                              Ralph.

It was great to finally meet you at Haydock and I'm very glad that you managed to pick up some bargains.

In fact I was surprised at how many top quality products there were at very good prices a lot of them were cheaper than internet prices.

At the Haydock Show I spotted some very nice brass "Barley Twist" canopy uprights………Just what I need for Lady Joyce

They were on a very nice brass Paddle Boat, built by Amos of the Bury Marine Club

Amos very kindly gave me a length of 5mm square brass bar……..With some brief instructions on how to twist them

Being a Smart Alec, I didn`t pay too much attention……..Sorry Amos

Getting down to it now, it isn`t that easy to make a quality job………I do have an idea though, but don`t fancy scrapping my precious brass bar, just yet

I was just wondering, if anyone out the has actually tried it, before I invent the wheel?

Hi Bob , The only way in my opinion would be to do it on the lathe , One end in the four jaw chuck and the other end gripped some how in a chuck in the tail stock , Then appliy some heat to the brass and rotate the chuck with a chuck key by hand to get the number of twists required , this method would keep the bar streight while it is being twisted.

                                    Best Regards Dave

                                      Thanks Dave

That's the easy obvious way, but don't think it would work

Once it started twisting, it'll carry on twisting at the same spot and probably snap off

My idea is to grip the bar in the vice with 1" protruding and at 1/2" from the vice jaws, twist the bar with a home made square socket, made from 1/4" MS plate, through a repeatable angle

Then repeat by releasing only 1/2" at a time

I've made a start, using this method, but the choice of torsional bending angle, appears to be not enough

It should have worked out to be 1/2" pitch, but looks more like 3/4"

All great fun, all the same…….Will post a photo shortly

                                      All the best…….Bob

Got extreme back trouble this morning…..Through doing nothing!

I could use two sticks of Liquorice and paint them a gold colour?

                                          That was a joke btw

                                          I'm surprised it's not a commercial product?

My first attempt at the Barley Twist is not too clever

Erratic lead etc and the pitch is not small enough

Amos said there was no need to anneal the brass, but I'll give it a try next time

Even at such a long lead, the 1/4" wide spanner is too wide to pass along the shallow spiral

Think I may have to use two Spanner's….1/8" wide……So that I can adjust the pitch, where necessary?

                                            All part of the fun?

                                                  Hi Bob,

                                                  found this on tinternet .

                                                  http://www.nargesa.com/en/industrial-machinery/automatic-twisting-machine-mt150a

and whilst I don't propose a purchase, it does appear to show the lathe approach, and they state 'cold', although they are talking iron.
