      Hello Peter

I've seen the loco Holy War

it runs on the Bala narrow gauge railway in North Wales

All the loco's there, have strange names……….Because they are named after famous Race Horses

Bob. Great bollards, exactly the right shape. Great recycling.

Almost as good as my .177 air rifle pellet capstan on the Titanic!

          Had a nice sail today……Eventually

          Why eventually, Bob lad?

Becaause the timing belt grub screws were continually coming loose!

Will have to get some of that "Screw loc" stuff………To secure the tiny grub screws……..This could be a bit risky

As it could clog up the minute hexagon sockets…………An extra locking grub screw may be the answer?

Ducky has made a video of the proceedings and will be released shortly

The club members enjoyed the occasion and a few of them had a go too

One club expert, reckoned the receiver was too low in the hull………As we lost contact occasionally

Does he mean the aerial or the actual receiver?……I ask myself

SloMo dashed about like a Buzzy Bee!………..Hope it`s on the video

Here is Duckies video……….Many thanks, Duckie, for the rapid turnaround

We were having a spot of bother with the rudder at times, but we managed to put on a reasonable demo together

Amazing. Great presence on the water, and does sit really nicely too. Love the noise of the Abell drives too.

Bob, I've seen Holy War too, and my brother-in-law, who built the model, was invited for a footplate ride a couple of years ago. He's English from Malmesbury, Wilts, and goes back every 2 or 3 years. When my wife and I were there, Holy War was in the shed for some servicing, but sister loco, Maid Marion, was pulling the train that we rode on.

                    Small world, hey, Peter?

So you've actually been to Llanucllyn Station?

                    it's almost like a film set………of the early 60's, it's so nostalgic

Bob. Just viewed the video, great stuff.

Big boat very stable, very effective bow profile, and a good turn of speed. rear wheels do not seem to be affecting it much.

SloMo looks great as well, also with a hidden turn of speed.

Job done I say. You didnt seem to have that much trouble launching the boat??

                        Hello Ashley

Correct!…….We had no trouble launching, because we had so many helpful club members, who insisted they helped!…..Many thanks, chaps……Your help was most welcome

We had trouble at times with the rudders, because, clumsy me, caught them on a shallow step during the transit and bent something

The models both ran well at times, but with the grub screws coming loose, it wasn't that obvious that they had and gave the appearance of disobedience and sluggishness?

SloMo hadn't run for 12 months and needed another coat of varnish inside the hull

It ran very well, but struggled a bit at times with a weird tranny……..One stick handling two motors……But still great fun!

I handed the controls to an innocent bystander, while I sorted out the VGC and he was frightened out of his skin!

                        Even more laughs!

It seems, the aerial is too low in the hull?……..Will sort it out in the paddling pool facility with glee!

                          Hello Captain Bob

Very happy to see the video.

VGC looks superbly elegant and has great presence on the water although I still maintain that your version sits to high in the water (hence the cavitation)

Also very pleased to see Slo Mo under full power………that hull design has high speed potential and it might be a worthwhile project to revisit the drawings to reduce the weight and stuff in 3 brushless motors.

Thank you for sharing the video with us.

Another advantage of 2.4Ghz sets…ability to hide the whole reciever up high and forget all that aerial wire hanging everywhere.

Paul. Possibly trim tabs might help with slo-mo??? pushes the c of g forward.

Hi Bob , You are right about Thread Lock on tiny screws you will struggle to get them out with the small hexagon drive , You could always mill a small flat on the boss that has the tapped hole in at and use a lock nut on a longer grub screw .

                              Best Regards Daveyes

Cookie. I have had exactly this issue on Proj no2, the Loctitie simply glued everything together and I could not undo the small grub screws (I used a hot air gun eventually to soften the Loctite).

I have since purchased some Loctite 222, which is formulated for small screws, via `t internet, but even then I am going to be sparing with it.

                                  That's probably a better idea

The pulley boss isn't deep enough to accomodate two grub screws anyway

But a longer grub screw and locknut would fit ok

                                  Thanks a lot, Mr Engineer

The problem of loose grub screws and other small ancillary equipment is usually due to vibration, gluing in the grub screws only masks the problem.

                                      There you go again…..Jobe's comforter……."masks the problem"….etc

If you remember…..Most twin motor bikes had frightful unsolvable vibration problems……Cue Ralph here

The grub screws are too small really, about M3 and the Allen Key is like a bit of bent wire……So it is difficult to really tighten it up

Perhaps I could tap them out to M4?

                                      All good fun, eh?

                                        Hi Bob

Thank you for your kind words although I have to confess that I commented as a qualified engineer rather than a sage.

                                        Job's Comforter: extract

The office of the comforter is a very high and blessed one. One who has the tongue of the learned, and can speak a word in season to him that is weary, may often prevent distress becoming despair; may often strengthen faith and hope, and cheer the mourner with the light of eternal peace.

My old Bonnie didn't vibrate in fact it ran as sweet as a nut……even if it did 'weep' oil everywhere.

On a serious note is there room on the pulley for re-taping and could you get it upto M5?

                                          Hello Paul

Just checked the pulleys and they are tapped out M4

I`m thinking of tapping a further grub screw hole at 90 deg to the existing……….That`s what we did at work!

I`ll sort it out…..One way or another

The main problem is access to the grub screws for a good purchase

For points of awkward access with allan keys I cut the right angle piece off the key and place the remaining long section in a quarter drive socket, it doesn't work every time but when it does you have better access and can tighten with a ratchet spanner.

Hi All Hope you do not mind me adding to your grub screw conundrum but here goes. Yesterday whilst replacing a grub screw in my current project I dropped the confounded little screw on the floor

Its a laminate so a brush around to no avail, got the magnet out for a further check ,to no avail.

Fed up so locked the workshop up and went for a coffee. Sat down when Elaine looked across and asked what I had stuck to my Crocs. Yes my grub screw ,still not fitted ,temper got the better of me for now.

Lesson /if your going to handle tiny bits wear Crocs you might pick them up in the soft plasticangryMichael

It always pays to shop where the trades go.

very very nice Bob, looks the Bee's around the pond, very majestic.

if Siadwell looks half as good I will be pleased.

                                                    what next?

                                                      What next?….What next?

We all want to see your latest work in progress of course?

I've got no plans at the moment, for a new build

I'm thinking of fitting two brushless motors in Brutus……..Because Brutus has a great potential for blasting around the pond

All in good time, old chap
