      Hi Bob and Paul..

Love the build and description…take no notice of bossy boots Colin…wink

Will the sea dogs live on board..?

Is that an optical illusion or on that last picture show the cabin raise to the rear..?

As the grease monkey has pointed out the pictures are actually of 2 different boats both of which were used in the assembly of the Lady Jane design

            Hi Paul

            Found this very early picture

I like the curtains and the life belt

Note the hand rail is level all along, despite the step up feature……..That should make the hand rail a doddle

Plenty of junk on the roof too

The Jolly Boat is a nice feature to tow round

              Hi Bob, Paul.

Is it me or are the boats pictured in the previous post different. The top ones don't appear to have a funnel, which has become the topic of bananas, monkeys and the verbose. Or is another one of those optical illusion thingimabobabells?

                Hi there Andy

They are different boats, just to keep the Readership on their toes!

                  Hello Vice Admiral Bob

I haven't seen that photo before. The handrails should be a straightforward build and the curtains will be a nice touch….how is your needlework these days?

The mast is an unusual configuration and it makes me wonder if the boat had an early radio set. Apparently the boat did travel as far as South America in its heyday so it wouldn't be surprising to learn that it did have an early Marconi.

For your construction purposes the mast is 500mm tall with the 200mm wide crosstree set 350mm from the base of the mast.

                  Paul

Is the height dimension, the height above the cabin roof?

I saw a photo some time ago, and it had spot lights on the cross rail…….Will be nice if operational?

The Doll's House hinges have just arrived and they look just splendid

We are off to the Warwick show tomorrow……..On the club chara……Hope to get the drive gear there and anything that catches my eye

                      Hello Commodore Bob

The mast height is taken from its base which is located slightly forward of the funnel on the rear cabin roof.

Plenty of beer, sandwiches and ribald songs on your trip to Warwick?

I just enjoy the ride and meeting old friends…..What can be better than that?

Hello Dave………The Warwick show is a nice tonic to cure the Autumnal blues!

The venue is totally different compared to the Haydock show, but the stands and models are just the same

I went for the coach ride and a chance to see a few models similar to my latest build. Was relieved to see plenty of models in the 5'-0" range

Made a mental note of the prop sizes and power sources

Came away with four MFA 850's and two 60mm brass props

The motors look handsome beasts and should look very nice once installed

                              More later…….Bob

Here are the legendary MFA 850`s and 60mm props……..As recco by the Prop Shop chappie

Not yet decided on the motor layout yet….Inline or broadside?

The Timing belt drives will be pointing rearward, down to the shallow angle prop shaft and out the back

We`ve got plenty of time to think about the final the moment……Don`t want to even think about the ESC`s!

Thinking about adding some cooling fans in the set up……..Just out of curiosity

                                  Hello Bob

I see that you had a good time at the show and hopefully spent large amounts of cash. I trust that the trip down and back again was uneventful except for the singing of rugby songs and stopping at every pub.

My personal opinion is that the motors will look more impressive when positioned side by side but this is just an opinion.

Will you actually need cooling fans or are they just cosmetic?

                                    Hello Paul

The side by side option is probably the best looking format, since they would look more like engines, when mounted on the Abell housings?…….Not forgetting the compulsory rivetted construction of course

The spare shaft end is ideal for adding a pair of cosmetic fans too

I believe the capacitors are already built in, which is a nice tidy feature

When we get the timing belts, the fun can start!…..Two pinions driving a single large propshaft pulley would look the biz?

The coach journey was very enjoyabell…….Joyce decided to tag along at the 11th hour!

Have several boats with 800/850 motors and not added capacitors, seems to be ok. All boats large and kit away from motors but this is the case with yours anyway. Mine used 27Meg sets so more prone to pickup I believe as well.

Bob. Unless ACtion do something to handle the expected 20A+ per pair of motors, and assuming by "F14stix" you mean pair of wagglers on your Tx set, then perhaps an Mtronics W-tail mixer might do combined with two 30 or 40A ESC.

This would mix the left and right motor pairs for manouverability and also give you an output for rudder?

OR simply getting a Y-lead for normal one stick throttle operation, controlling two speed controllers..to split the load. I am a bit wary of high power single ESc`s and their ability to dissipate heat, unless watercooled.

This is also a situation for one of those little watt-meters I found. Connect the motors up with shafts and so on, then simply try the pairs of motors in boat in the water with either just a battery across the leads or any handy esc of more than 30A capacity and measure the actual current consumption. So easy with one of these meters. Will give you more idea of the likely load and so equipment requirements and even the need for cooling.

I think one Tx stick per pair of motors and each pair controlled by one chunky ESC…..80 amp?

                                                I hope to use 8.2v stick batts…..One per motor………Have some 12v sticks….(a bit old)

Jane will be happy to produce some letters for you on her cutting machine so do you want them cutting out of card or vinyl, what colour (as long as its black) and which font?

                                                  Paul

You can have any colour in card but Jane only has Black or Pink vinyl at the moment, the vinyl is sticky back and easy to apply.

Dare we use Fablon?……..Only the Transom would get wet and it may be ok with Gold lettering and a few coats of Poly`?

Would be very nice on the cabin walls

I was looking for wallpaper originally, but spotted this stuff

May be ok for the roofs?…..White of course
