Can anyone advise how to wire twin motors and a bow thruster.
The motors are 500 2.5/1 and the bow thruster is a 400 motor drive unit.
i have two props handed left and right.

Mick, what radio set do you have available and what fancy moves do you want to make.

The least fancy 2-channel setup would be a single speed control and thruster connected to two rudder operated microswitches.

You’ll find a number of different wiring diagrams for twin motors here.

Mick, If you have a pair of aircraft style gear retract switches for channel 5,6 and don’t fancy the arrangement that I describe below then what model of radio and how old is it?
I was looking to see what you had in terms of channel 5,6,7 to work the bow thruster.Whether or not you had slider, rotary control or 3-position switches.

I’ve only used the forward reverse gimbals for independant throttle, one sideways for rudder and the other sideways for a bow thruster. The first time I tried that was using someone elses model and I had it mastered after a few minutes.I’m one of those folks who takes a few moments and learns the controls each journey.

If that suits ok to you then the only issue is power to each controller, motor suppression and whatever extras you want controlled by r/c.
If you take the sensible approach of  “full access” to motors, servos and electrics for a total reinstall then you can rejig.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the delay in resonding but i am building the ship with all the limited time i have.
The radio is a brand new Hi-Tec optic 6 with 3 position switch for retracts.
The control using the gimbles was my first thought as i used to fly helicopters, so full use of the gimbles won’t be a problem,i would like to control the lights and water monitors with the switches but there is another problem the bow thruster is 7.2v, lights 3v, water pump 12v and i have a 12v battery?
So question? how do you wire all that up?
                  mick.

It would be nice to have a link to a non-proprietory site .. there must surely be a simple way to do this with perhaps switches reached by adjusting the trim tab to gain further swing of the servo arm.  The switch reversing the polarity of the current to one motor else perhaps a ganged pair of DPDT switches to also change the polarity of the bow thruster.

I’m just starting in on a twin-prop craft and wondering … but surely I do’t have to invent the wheel?

Just a word of warning though. The suggestion I made which uses the retract switch on the TX to switch between grouped motor control and  “tank” steering may not work with some modern speed controllers which do a reset each time the signal is interrupted.
