There are several ….things…you can make to go with Daleks,as a theme…gosh, even swapping a Barbie for a Cyberman would do.

Much as like the Mekon, tricky to find more Dan related items to use?. (Answers on a postcard)

Pond frozen on Wednesday, and the mornings have been even frostier since so I think there maybe too much ice to contemplate icebreaking?

Terry taking shape. One of the issues was marking out the panels…eight per side…but I think a template will solve that. The light on top is white, not blue as you might think. I will need a small piece of 20mm clear acrylic rod for this. Donations welcome!

Chaps, I think tomorrow is a no no, the jug of water I keep for my grinder/brush washing has turned into a solid and that’s inside the garage!

due to warm up a bit by next week——— but don’t hold your breath!

Went out to play at a concert last night, 5.45pm, and it took at least 15mins to defrost the car so it was safe to drive. Coming home at 9.30pm, 10 mins wait.

This morning it looks like the car has been sprayed with white paint.

No boating methinks. Pond must have 1/2 inch of ice on it and it would take me longer to de-ice the car than the drive to the pond!

matted clear acrylic squares need gluing into Terry’s window spaces. A tricky feat as if I get glue on the edges I reckon it will show up when they are backlit. Not sure how to proceed. I may smear glue on the frame inner and carefully position the window? Ideally I need a transparent glue in a dispenser with a fine tip to apply a thin bead around the edges. I have some acrylic glue that dries crystal clear and this will wipe off with a damp cloth nicely and may be the way to go.

As it is, the Matt windows may not provide the right look when on the pond unless the backlight is strong enough to be seen, and I may end up painting the inside of the windows white?

            Mega Deja-vu moment just now.

Started painting undercoat on Terry’s side panels and thought….hang on, I have painted them already…despite them not looking any different. I distinctly remember doing it…

THEN I noticed a few light grey marks around the edges and saw that the paint had sunk into the foam. The stuff I ave is dark grey foam and is slightly more porous and less dense than the blue, which means comparing the reverse to the painted there was not much colour difference.

Just as well I put a second coat on as it should seal it properly now so I should get away with just one coat of blue.

December mag just popped through the door. A great issue I thought, one of the best….UNTIL Januaries issue!!

My brother and his wife are over from Australia for our mums funeral. It was high summer over there, and they come over to minus temperatures!

                    Both have colds.

                      Hi Ashley

                      Sorry about your mum.

High summer is a bit of an over statement, temps only in the 12/20 C mark.

                      Rain and wind.

Australia has cop a lot of bad weather, but Tasmania has miss a lot.

                      Regards

Our condolences on behalf of the Forum to Ashley for the loss of his Mum.

I met her a few years back when I parked at her place while Ashley and I went up to London togther to do some research at the Maritime Museum plans department at Wookwich. She was a very nice lady.

Hi Brian. Glad to hear you are still ‘at it’. Not much sailing to be had lately eh!

its only -4 here at the moment. The brass band is supposed to be playing carols in Cobham this morning. Madness really but there we are.

Not going to be any boating Sunday at this rate. My brother said the locks at Teddington were frozen over yesterday (on the Thames).

Shame about the weather and ice on the ponds.

Just watched "Bear Island" on TV, the best bits were the airboats on the snow…

Apparently it's a Swedish hydrocopter made by Albin and Borje Johansson of Arkosund. If only we had someone known for unusual builds on this forum, we could have all weather sailing couldn't we Ashley……..

Seriously, the issue with skimming on ice is that by the time you get there, the ice is broken up and littered with sticks and stones. We did try the Tups on ice and snow, but the performance was only so so. The craft are very light and flat underneath and tend to just stick to the surface. Given a shove off, they would keep going, but you need a big area to manoeuvre in.

The Tup’s we built were supposed to work on snow and ice but in reality snow was too sticky unless it had been frozen overnight and on ice they became a spinning uncontrollable missile! Like the saying, you can’t scale down wind and water or even ice and snow.

Nigel. I had to wait for snow for both the Zis and Tupolev articles for pictures, not the th Zis actually worked on land or the Tup was whizzy on snow, but the Zis had a winter cameo colour scheme and it was nice to have a bit of context, and the Tups were designed for ice and snow so needed a similar context snap.

Just had a quick preview of Februaries Stingray article. Nice ! Another great layout by Richard. Will be followed a few issues later by a Terror-ble article…..

Got lots of nice pressies including a 1:1250 Scale Corgi HMS Queen Elizabeth for my miniatures collection. I don't normally collect naval vessels but having seen the carrier several times it makes a nice comparison with my usual liners etc. The photo below was intended to demonstrate to Mrs B my superlative multi tasking abilities but for some reason she doesn't seem convinced….

It’s cosy. Working at your cutting mat is like building a nest. I find the work area gets more and more cluttered as the build progresses.

Had a look st the QE Corgi carrier and well impressed with it, going to have to get one to go with my collection of Triang minic ships. They are at 1:1200 scale verses the 1:1250 of the QE but near enough. I can escort her with some T45 destroyers, T23 frigates and Trafalgar subs.

This method usually ensures that your current work is on the top of the pile…

Re the QE model, I am impressed with it. It comes in a display case and although displayed as a waterline model at sea it is actually a full hull model which is screwed to the bottom of the stand.

I bought mine at a discount from Antics for £56.75 (Prince of Wales also available)

In my small corner of the loft conversion where I have my desk,I like to keep my desk tidy and try to put tools away at the end of the day. Also in the workshop in the garden I like to put the tools I have been using away at the end of the day.

I think it comes from my early working days and training in an analytical lab.

I’m sorry Tim, that’s much too tidy a desk, and I may have to ban you from posting again, as it will make us feel very inferior….although I did notice your small clamps are not all pointing the same way….🤭
