As I am sure you remember the centre page pull out plan for a model of aound 15in. had been a feature of the magazine for many years when, for some reason, they stopped doing it. I am delighted to see it back as digital subscribers actually get it and it opens the door to a plan with every issue.

As I get older the small models get more & more appealing!

Ah Chris, well I remember the centrefold pull out poster…..oops…you were referring to a pull out plan !!

Dont recall the in-mag plans to be honest!

But as you say, a welcome addition to the mag. May get people designing more small boats!

Sadly I remember the centre pull out plans, Glen Guest was a constant contributor to that back in the 80s.

I cannot be sure if all these 15in GG designs were centre page pull out plans but I do remember most of them.

There might well be other Glynn Guest centre page pull out plans that I don't remember:

            Arcady 15in Tug
            ATCH Armoured Troop Carrier Helicopter
            Diana 14in Fast runabout
            Guardian 15in Cat Workboat
            Jenny Sue 15in Pushboat
            Knocker White Tug
            MTB382 15in MTB
            Talisman 15in Fishing Boat
            Yeoman 15in Lifeboat
and now 15in US Army Tug

There has also been the work of other designers including Ray Woods with his Ferrett MTB.

              mini mist testing.jpgHi All,

I have so far produced 4no A3 size boats published as the centre fold, Graham Ashby when he was editor was keen and as he is a flying buddy I was please to oblige

Terrier MTB which Chris mentioned + Curlew, Sunny (Sun XXI) and Mini Mist (only partly finished in this photo) the scaled down version of the Vic Smeed design, I always admired Vic's work he takes some beating

The 15" boats are a Bug*er to get standard radio in !! mini mist & sunny 231019.jpg

You seem to have taken over the 15in model king tag. Nice models.

Is there such a thing as a standard radio these days? 2oz servos & 4AA's for radio power + drive batteries seem so long ago.

                  Nice little boats Ray.

The only trouble with little boats is… they are little! And shrink to nowt’ out on the water. My Sans Pareil is about 18 inches long but doesn’t look very battleshippy next to larger scale boats.

The receiver I was using on the Sippi got wet so I levered the casing open to let it dry out, but as you know, the actual boards are very small usually, so as space is at a premium I left the casing off and just varnished over the board instead.

You can get very small gear nowadays, servos and so on.

Popped to the pond as it was sunny yesterday afternoon, but disappointed with pictures due to the shadows created by the ’flanged’ Dalek construction. Should have thought that would be the case.

No boating today as it’s Remembrance Day so will be attending the Molesey memorial parade. Ashley

There were centre fold plans in the 60s by R A Sweet, which were balsa planked with gum strip overlay. Sometimes they were small enough to fit across the centre double page, but others were split, with the bow or stern on another page. Ones that stick in my mind were a Chinese junk and Slocum's Spray, as well as a number of small modern warships.

Yes that is true but for kitchen table builders they are possible + they are easy to store & transport. These things matter as you get older.

The model chosen also has a great impact on apparant size. A 15in battleship is tiny but a 15in River Push Tug is quite a large model.

I also think that there is something very desirable about a well built small model. When I see a display of models the small ones are always those that I look at with the most interest.

I would also happily put one of Rays 15in models in a glass case in the lounge for exhibition which I wouldn't do if they were twice the length (& 8 times the volume)

Each to his own I guess.

Scale is everything. The Bumpers are only a foot long, and there is room by there like a warehouse to stash the stuff.

                          Ah…Samantha Fox, very ship-shape!  Ashley.

Can’t remember if I posted this link or not.

its a while ago now but some of my boats were borrowed to “star” in a ‘shorts’ film. They only used two in the end.

Titanic features nicely, the Argus flashes across the scene on top of a wardrobe, have to keep awake for that! I am also on the credits at the end! No money of course, or fame come to think of it….

Last Sunday boating just a Dalek. This Sunday…a dalek and the CHRISTMAS ferry. Why not.

Daleks in January's issue, Great artwork from Richard for the article header page. So great I begged on bended knee and he has sent me a PDF wot I have blown up to A3 size and had laminated £4 from local print shop. fabbydozy.

Our chaps will see it on Sunday. More Styrofoam ordered to make something else to go with the Dalek tops. A sure-fire winner.

Sigh, the Daleks are refusing to go out due to the rain.

                                    The sky is grey.

Can’t see it brightening up in the next half an hour.

Had Covid booster yesterday, arm achy, can’t lift it above that required to raise teacup to mouth. Feel a bit lethargic, may be due to the weather and presumed lack of boating.

Sob Sob ITS ALL GOING WRONG.

Daleks don't want to get short circuited.

November is always the most depressing month but it will be over soon. Mrs B & I had no ill effects from our boosters except a slightly sore arm for 24 hours or so.
