I have partly found the problem.

Under your name for each posting is a click item that says "156 photos". If I click that I get taken to Albums by Ashley Needham which has the HMS London folder with 9 pictures.

There is also a blue click item "latest images" which is where your Bumper  pictures are located but so are everyone elses latest pictures and they will gradually move down the page as anyone posts new images

Probably rubbish but having had a look through a few pages of "latest images" I have found your flying saucer pictures. It appears that if they are not in an album they just move ever down the list.

As an extra item, if Colin is going to look at this, would it be possible to have a link in the "latest image" folder that took you to the post where the image came from (if it was posted in a thread)? I have found several interesting images in "latest images" but have no idea where they came from and no obvious way of finding out.

I don't know if everyone else knows this but I didn't.

As stated above if you click on the "156 photos" link under Ashley's name on his postings it takes you to a page that only shows the HMS London folder which contains 9 images but there is also a blue link button "Latest Images".

If you click on that it brings up all the latest images posted be everyone – all the way back to April 2007. As Ashley has recently posted some Bumper Boat pictures they are near the top. Click on one of those and it gives you an enlarged view and importantly an arrow at each bottom corner of the picture. Using those you cycle through all the remaing 147 photos. I can't find the thubnails for them all and cycling through them is slow & crude but they are there.

            Chris,

I am trying to discover why the Ashley's Boats album doesn't appear – just the London one. Thre may be a corrupted link in the database as others don't seem to be affected.

Whilst I hope we can correct the problem, I doubt it there is any prospect of enhancing the software in any way. Mortons have taken it over 'as is'.

I don't have access to the source code and anyway it would be madness to attempt to modify very old code such as we have here and where the original coder is no longer available. As far as I am aware, Mortons do not support forums for any of their original publications, just the three taken over from MTM. They may maintain them but have no incentive to develop or tinker with them.

I hear what you are saying about the forum. Pity it didn't get transferred like the RCM&E example before the takeover.

Trying to find corrupted links might be really tricky. Would it be easier to just start an new folder "Anything Else" & include all the photos in it?

Ashley's images have been like this for a long time. Before this problem was discovered I had thought that they had been removed.

I noticed that Ashley's album didn't have a photo designated as the header so I corrected that and also stuck another image of my own on for luck before saving. I suspect this was an original bug that somehow stayed under the radar.

Played with my new overlander battery charger this morning.

Despite a full page of the tiniest writing by way of a flow chart, the getting started page was easy to follow and successfully topped up a 3s Lipo….result!

Sonic ready for Sunday…macs and umbrellas at the ready. Worried now that it might require a chuck start like some hydros, it was glow powered originally, so would have probably needed a chuck start. BUT the real worry is….will be able to re-start from a stand still?.

sigh, Sonic performed much as I thought. A lot of spray….and not much else!

neither disc produced anything remotely like "thrust", other than to inch forward, and in fact the aluminium paddles (10mm by 10mm) actually bent, such was the awesome power of the brushless moteur.

I have made two new paddles, and put 20 by 20mm brass blades on….its not ALL blade, the paddle sits 10mm inside a slot in the 12mm wide ply, but its a decent area increase. On the old discs I have shortened the paddle tips…you never know how these things work, to re-test.

We tried a couple of chuck launches and for a few yards it got me hopes up, but it was not to be.

It floats a bit low as seen, but i couldnt make it any lighter. The 2s 2200mAhr battery is probably virtually half the weight ….

Simon had a smoke moment, say no more….. (but not as impressive as my yellow smoke)

Indeed … it looks like after re-jigging the wiring in the updated layout, I must have slightly pulled away the sleeving over the ESC connectors and when I pushed the battery into the hull, the wires moved back, the connectors touched and shorted out… a few beeps followed by the dreaded smoke … the ESC was completely melted. As was commented at the time, if I was trying to make a realistic smoke generator I did a good job!

Ah well – it provided a brief moment of excitement (that's the main thing), but the boat didn't even make it into the water today unfortunately.

I've put some additional heatsink sleeving over the connectors now so hopefully won't happen again (or at least not that problem!)

Played with the Sunderland for a bit.

Re jigging the servo to be inside the cab in the dry.

There are just so many variables here. Do you have a dimensioned plan to follow. Do you really know how well the original worked?

Coming from an aeromodelling background I would suggest that you might start by adding as much lightness as possible.

Then rotor speed, blade size & shape, blade immersion, c of g – the list just goes on.

This might well be a long term hobby!

Ultimately, I think that weight will be the issue. The original had nothing but a glowmotor in it.

The boat as it stands weighs 350g with a 2200mAhr 2s Lipo (200g) so I am not sure I could have made it much lighter UNLESS I used foam exclusively.

Trevor has a smaller Lipo and I will beg him to see if he will let me try the boat with it. I might save 75-100g !

At the moment the entire hull sits in the water, that’s some drag.

I am using a plan, it’s printed out slightly larger than original 20 vs 17” long but if the boat was smaller more than half of it would be underwater!

Its a fag but I foresee a lot of paddle making looming to try and get some thrust.
