      Hi Eddie,

Yes a great day on the water, we were lucky with the weather & wind, the AMBO crew are a good bunch and very easy going, the Buggy/Barge transporter is a great idea looking forward to the finals at Bluewater.

Hans talking to Robert and Dave Watts concentrating in the back ground, with you relaxing between races.

Three wise men, or Last of the Summer Winelaugh.

Peter Simmonds nearest the camera, Richard Chesney and Ray Wood on the end, racing in the 30" TSB class at Bluewater today, Ray came away with a handfull of prizes. I came last in all my races but it was still a good day, very warm with light winds and good company.

          Hi Eddie,

Two wise men Peter & Richard, and one who needs to lose a few stone, diet started today

Takes patience to sail at Bluewater as the wind is so variable !!!

          Enjoy Broadstairs this week,

Congratulations on your haul of trophies. When is the first international regatta planned? Here in Mallorca of course!

A lovely sight those barges and definitely on my build list. I seem to have gone off aircraft for a while.

Hi. Ray nice photo of the two boats, sorry about the caption of you three skippers, couln't resist itcheeky.

Management is going to hairdressers tomorrow that means Roger and I can go to Hearne Bay for a mornings sail, then to Ramsgate on Thur. with the Tug, and a final morning at Ramsgate on Sunday morning before travelling home.

Going across the wind the boat just goes sideways, I cannot get any foward drive to get the keel working, anyone any suggestions? even if it's the cr – -p helmsmanblush.

                Regards.

                  Hi Tim,

Trying to keep all the balls in the air, just received a couple of FMS 50mm fans from George at 4Max to build a Tony Nijhuis Jet Provost which was a recent free plan in RCM&E

                  Eddie,

If the winds coming directly from the side, your main sail should be let out to 45 Degrees and you will be broad reaching, that should work

If you had a separate vang control you could let the sprit out slightly aswell.

                  Regards Ray

                    Hi Ray,

                    congratulations !!!

the only competition I took part in was the Moravian Cup in the footy category, in Trinec town. I was not doing well, the weather was bad.

My sail number is 19 , a bigger sail nr 17 is borrowed from a friend Zdenek,
practically the wind wasn't blowing until the last race .. and only about 10 minutes ..and then again almost windless..

as I mentioned, I'm starting to build a Piscataqua gundalow, scale 1:24, length 91 cm,

I am going to stop trying to keep up!!

                      Eddie

Expanding on Ray a little bit, it sounds like you are over-sheeted. The wind coming from the side should be the fastest point of sailing. The sail position on a reach (wind at 90 degrees) should probably be out even more than 45 degrees especially in light winds when the apparent wind will not go forward too much.
The trick is to just have the luff of the sail full. If it flutters the sail is too far out and if over sheeted the sail stall and stops producing lift (drive) and the drag goes up a lot.

In the real racing world people tend to relax on a reach and a run but the winners will all be constantly trimming their sails.

Hi. Gents, thanks for your help, I think I will try to improve my sailing with the boat as it is, other than reducing drag, I will then try another servo to control the sprit.

                        Thanks for your help.

                        Regards.

                            Hello Tom,

The Footy yachts look like fun to race 😀 Peter Simmonds told me yesterday he had just finished a Stumpy sailing barge but would not be a racer, your Gundalow looks similar, good luck from the UK and keep us posted.

                            Best wishes Ray

Hi. Tom, nice to hear from you again, I have my sails rigged as you suggest,it is my sailing technique that I need to improve. Sailing alongside others with similar boats soon shows up your own deficiencies.

                                Hi Gents,

Footy is a small model, and quite sensitive to control.
I had trouble driving on a distant buoy, much like last year with Capricorn at the regatta. I thought it was how the sun shone in my eyes. Finally at home I found out that I would have to wear my glasses for distance…(translated by Google).

I'm putting together the necessary equipment for Gundalow. To control the sail I will use again the HS 765HB lever servo, the classic rudder servo, ESC from HK. Mini motor DC12V (servomotor from the car, perhaps from the windows control). Meanwhile, I'm thinking how to continue building . Gundalow has a flat deck where cargo was carried, a difference from TSB. I need access to the hull, so I will do it just like my TSB models.
The difference is that I cover the coamings best as a load of wood.

autumn in the park – I took advantage of the very warm weather and went to try the tomcat in the park (while there is still water in the pond).
after about half an hour the model stopped responding – I did not measure any battery voltage. Only then at home did I find out that it was a 1A fuse .. bad luck .. Next time I take more fuses with me.img_1865.jpg

                                                Hi Ray,

I got a lot of documentation and good advice from Kim when building my barge models. He is one of the few who really selflessly advises (I have to mention at least Peter Siímmonds and Richard Chesney too , and next modellers from this forum.)

t's a pity that Kim articles on> Modelbarge info <are no longer available. Very interesting and helpful.

White Marlin .. interesting article, indeed ! I got an older polystyrene model hull with deck (ca 50 cm long), so I just need to make a superstructure. But I don't know what ..

                                                  Hi,

I am slowly building the Piscataqua River Gundalow. today I tested rigging settings. But I still have a lot of work to do – finish spraying the hull, rudder, engine, electronics, fin with a lead bomb of about 850 grams ..

                                                    Hello Tom,

The rig is good and simple with the single sail, rather like our Norfolk Wherries, our sailing barges are in hibernation, but must start preparing for the new season soon 😀
