hi all several years ago i had a terrible disaster with a model of the titanic, it was actually my first attempt at rc, she was beautiful ship, my pride and joy, i took her to our local lake for her maiden voyage. i had quite a gathering lots of appretiative remarks my pride was growing, unfortunately it was short lived, being a novice i hadnt taken into account the waterskiers on the lake and got to close to the wash from one of them which swamped my boat and she started to sink before i could get her anywhere near enough to shore she sank. i was nearly crying i couldnt swim just had to watch her sink.after that i never sailed any ship anywhere i could not wade in and get. well after a chat with someone the other day i recounted the sad story of my titanic and they told me about a simple idea that their friend used aparently he fills any space inside his ships with the foam chips you get from appliance packaging which he says keeps his models afloat should anything unforeseen happen. i think its a brilliant idea anyone else use this idea. or anyone else got another simple solution .

Kenneth. comiserations old chap. Must have been terrible!

SOME of the foam chips are biodegradable, or made from cellulose of something and may not be much good. best to soak some first just in case. Other than that, anything would help.

We have discussed this before, and one method is to have something on the boat that floats but is held on with a water soluable glue.. this will melt after a while and the floater can pop to the surface tethered to the baot (which is the thing not to forget, a bit of line connecting the float and boat). A float could concievably be hidden in a Titanic funnel, for instance.

I would rather build in some expanded polystyrene , filling the sharp end or superstructure/whatever.

Ashley. Have a Titanic, not suffered so far,,,,,

            Hi Ken

If you take a look at my Glasgow build, you will see that I have catered for a possible mishap by building in two empty milk bottles in the hull

But really fancy a floating wreck buoy on deck with a safety line….As Ashley suggested

Here in holland a lot of people use what we call "Pool noodles" for this – mainly the speedboat guys use it, as their models are more prone to collisions and severe damage from underwater objects. It's essentially the long ends of foamy stuff that people use for aquarobics or just to float around, and typically they are on sale for 2-4 euros/gbp. Jou can cut one up and do a lot of boats with it. Just stuff all the excess space in your boat with it.
