I have installed a sound unit in my tug boat. It works via a splitter cable one of which goes to the rudder servo. The only problem I have is if I alter the rudder position the sound stops and restarts bit like an on/off switch. The receiver has three channels but the transmitter has two. The sound unit lights up in the Rx third slot but no sound. Is there away to have the sound continuously on. I could go and buy a new transmitter.

You've answered your question in that you need three channels and you only have two. Don't however just go looking for a 3-channel set. Most are designed for racing cars, have steer-wheels instead of sticks and also have many fancy computerised tricks which are not useful for model boats. They are also very expensive when compared with a basic budget 4 or 6 channel radio.

This is becoming a very popular budget set **LINK**

Surely the sound module should be on the motor control channel. then when you stop the motor the sound stops, not the rudder channel. Try putting your Y cable on the motor control, and connect the rudder direct

              cheers Tom

If it's an engine sound unit then you may well be right (unless it's one of those unmentionable ones that needs an extra channel just to start it). If it's a one-shot sound like a siren or horn then it needs either a RC switcher and/or its own channel. Nice to hear from you again, m'duck – you don't post on here often enough – for me at least.

What exactly is the sound unit you have?

The sound unit is a circuit board with a micro SD card. Basically you can have any sound on the card. The sound is excellent. Currently have a 12 cylinder Marine engine. I can connect it to the motor rather than the rudder. Going in reverse stops the sound. I’m still very happy with the sound unit itself.

If you want to hear the sound all of the time then why not buy a cheap servo tester and connect the sound unit to its output? You can connect the power input via a male-to-male servo lead to the spare Rx pins, turn the servo tester to Manual and set it to run the sound continuously. Here's one but there are many others, some for less than two pounds.

Thanks Dave, I will give it a go as it’s pocket money price. Hopefully arrive before Xmas. I will let you know how I get along with it.
